Meeting 1:
First as class begins students will identify the three different types of angles (acute, obtuse, and right, plus straight lines) by shape and by degree measure. Then students learn that by adding 2 angles together a straight line measuring 180 degrees is the result. Next they learn the equivalent angles when one line bisects another line. They also will learn 4 types of triangles (equilateral, right, scalene, and isosceles). Finally a game will be played using one die in which the student will practice all of the skills involving angles and triangles that were learned during the class. If a die is not available the teacher will roll for the student.

Meeting 2:
This class begins with a description of various lines; parallel, intersecting, and perpendicular, and students then practice identifying examples of lines. Next there are several polygons described; parallelogram, quadrilateral, square, rhombus, rectangle, trapezoid, and kite by the attributes of each shape. Students will complete four different Venn Diagrams comparing two shapes. Shapes are described by riddle and learners are asked to name the shapes. A few more exercises ask the students to classify figures based on the descriptions given which list sides and angles. The class then involves practicing finding shapes from given descriptions in the form of games, because the fun of a game makes content much more memorable. Students will be asked to complete a maze by choosing parallelograms, and four games use the roll of a die to find quadrilaterals. If a die is not available the teacher can roll for the learner..
Meeting 3:
The formulas to find the perimeter and area of a simple quadrilateral will be explained. Students will then practice finding perimeter and area of simple quadrilaterals. Then the formula for finding the area of a right triangle will be explained. Students will then practice finding perimeter and area of both shapes. Finally the formula for finding the volume of a box will be explained. Students will then practice using these formulas for each shape. Each time a student finishes finding the perimeter, area, and volume (when the shape is a box) of a shape the student then sees another animal added to the zoo.
Meeting 4:
In this class we determine the length of the radius and diameter of a circle.
Meeting 5:
We start with students reading a thermometer and giving the temperature in Fahrenheit and Celsius. Next the student will read a ruler and give a measurement, will give the amount of liquid in a graduated cylinder, and view a balance telling the measurement indicated. There are three cooking questions where the learner adds up the ingredients in possession and compares that to the ingredients needed for a recipe, deciding whether the recipe can be cooked. Students will view examples and choose which form of measurement would be most appropriate (like yard, inch, or mile). Next the learner will determine the length of items based on the information that is given. Next the student will use a ruler to find the length of objects in both inches and centimeters. The learner next finds the amount of kilograms equal to grams and liters equal to milliliters. The student then determines the missing amount to balance a scale.

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente

I teach classes in many subjects. I am proficient in reading, grammar, and math. I also can teach science, history, social studies, and some Spanish.
I have a college degree in teaching and a permanent certificate. I have taught all subjects to fourth graders including everything involved in science fair participation. I then spent years working as a substitute teacher in all grades from TK through high school. I worked some long-term assignments in the high school teaching language arts, history, business education, job preparation, keyboarding, journalism, and credit recovery.
I believe education is most effective when it is remembered. I believe in creating projects with content and utilizing interactive journals. I have created games to help learn basic concepts in grammar and math. These will be listed as soon as possible! Education can be fun!!
When not working I like to crochet projects to be donated for use or as gifts to family members and I try to volunteer at a local center.
