Catching Fire is a great story because the student can read it in one of two ways: it stands alone as its own captivating story with endless concepts and parallels to explore, or it stands as the second story of the Hunger Games trilogy.

If your student has already taken my Hunger Games book #1 course, they will gain more value out of this second course. However even if they have not, they will certainly enjoy and learn from this stand alone course.

The following is an outline of how the course will progress: Each week, students will be given a portion of reading to complete independently, and we will discuss reading comprehension questions together.

This course is designed to span about eight weeks. Students will read an average of three chapters each week prior to completing the lesson. Some weeks require a little bit more or less, but this is outlined in the lesson requirements each week.

Hey there! My name is Emily Kendall. My passion for education is to make it fun and purposeful for each student that I get the privilege to interact with!

I am currently a research fellow, earning my PhD in education at the University of Oklahoma. The specialty of my research is to arm students with skills and knowledge to transition from school and into adulthood - no matter what age, it is never too early or too late! I also serve as a military reservist, Lieutenant in the US Coast Guard.

I earned my associate degree in child psychology, then my bachelor of science in education from Liberty University, and then my master of science in special education from Johns Hopkins University.

I teach classes that are based on real-life experience and literature. If a student can connect a concept to an experience, then they are engaging in valuable learning!

For example, my one on one tutoring sessions typically involve the interest of a student (ex. cooking), and my lesson will be constructed around famous chefs/ bakers from history, utilizing math and science skills, even marketing, business, and finance, as these play a role in a career or hobby surrounding cooking.

Please message me with any specific concerns or requests for your child, and let's get started!
