🌟Welcome to Vocabulary Builders! 🌟 In this fun and interactive vocabulary class, we will learn five new common core words each session.🚀📚 🧠✨How Do We Acquire Vocabulary Words? ✨🧠 In Vocabulary Builders, we will add new words to our lexicon by following a dynamic process that builds connections to our existing vocabulary: 🗣️Read the word together and learn its pronunciation and part of speech. 📸Look at a picture or video clip that illustrates the meaning of the word. 🔄Word connections: Identify synonyms and antonyms. ✏️Write the word to reinforce spelling and familiarity. 📝Write the word in a sentence to understand its usage in context. 🤸♂️Movement to represent the word to engage physical memory. 🎲Optional homework game: We'll have an optional homework game to reinforce our classroom learning. 🌟Why Learn Vocabulary? 🌟 By the end of high school, students should be able to read 40,000 words. This translates to learning about 3,300 words per year or roughly 90 words per week. Vocabulary Builders is here to help with that acquisition! Vocabulary acquisition improves reading comprehension. (Anderson and Freebody, 1981) Vocabulary knowledge in early elementary predicts middle and high school reading levels. (Cunningham and Stanovich, 1997) 🌟Our Learning Plan:🌟 We will learn and connect with five new words in each class. ▶️Week of September 9 - aid, although, bond, cause, common ▶️Week of September 16 - character, classify, consider, community, continue ▶️Week of September 23 - control, discussion, exactly, further, general ▶️Week of September 30 - goal, history, journal, likely, method And so on! Further weeks will be added as we progress. You are welcome to join the class at any time. ✨ This is an inclusive class and all learners are welcome. Join us in Vocabulary Builders and enhance your word power! 💪📖

Meet Our Teachers
🟢Ms. Melissa, JD (founder)
Hello! Welcome to Wild Prairie Learning!
I am a lawyer turned online teacher with a deep passion for education. Prior to attending law school at the University of Saskatchewan, I studied education and linguistics in university at the University of Alberta. More recently, I completed my TEFOL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) certification.
I have been teaching English successfully online for the past 6 years and have taught thousands of private and group online classes. I love helping students learn new skills and accomplish their goals.
When I am not teaching, I am likely to be spending time with my family! I have four children ages 8-18, a husband, two cats, and a miniature poodle named Penny. We spend our summers camping, and we love to play board games together!
🟢Ms. Amanda, MEd, TESOL/TEFL
Hi, I’m Ms. Amanda! I have been a U.S. state certified teacher for over 12 years both in-person and online. I have my Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Early Childhood Education. My Master’s degree is in Classroom Technology. I have TESOL, TEFL, and ESL Specialist certificates. I taught English as a Second Language for four years in a school district. For the last eight (plus) years, I have been teaching online to over 5,000 students and over 15,000 classes! I have spent my entire teaching career specializing in teaching English, and love what I do!
I have worked with children ages 3-18 and excel in forming a positive classroom environment. I find my kind and upbeat personality allows me to connect and engage with students in my classroom. I believe when learners feel more comfortable and welcomed in their environment, they will become more active in their learning! I love building relationships with students as they begin to express themselves in class and take their learning to the next level!
When I am not teaching online, I am homeschooling my son! I enjoy spending time with my family, and taking care of my little "zoo" including multiple dogs, guinea pigs, hamsters, and fish! I love swimming, and cheering on my son at his various activities!
Thank you for taking the time to learn about me, and I'm excited to begin learning together!
