This is a full Reading curriculum course taught by a certified teacher and Reading Specialist using the Science of Teaching Reading principles.  

This class is different from others because it follows a curriculum and is academically focused while being engaging and motivating for all learners.  The curriculum is cross-curricular so science and social studies topics be also be covered.

Small class sizes ensure that your child gets the one on one instruction your child needs, child will learn to read guaranteed!  Get your child ready for school!

This course will cover all 2nd Grade ELA state standards to meet homeschool requirements.  This class will teach CURSIVE HANDWRITING!

Second Grade State Standards:

CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RL.2 Reading Standards for Literature

KEY IDEAS AND DETAILS  
     CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RL.2.1 Ask and answer such questions as who, what, where, when, 
     why, and how to demonstrate understanding of key details in a text.
     CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RL.2.2 Recount stories, including fables and folktales from diverse 
     cultures, and determine their central message, lesson, or moral.
     CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RL.2.3 Describe how characters in a story respond to major events 
     and challenges.

CRAFT AND STRUCTURE  
      CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RL.2.4 Describe how words and phrases (e.g., regular beats, 
      alliteration, rhymes, repeated lines) supply rhythm and meaning in a story, poem, or 
      song.
     CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RL.2.5 Describe the overall structure of a story, including 
     describing how the beginning introduces the story and the ending concludes the 
     action.
     CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RL.2.6 Acknowledge differences in the points of view of characters, 
     including by speaking in a different voice for each character when reading dialogue 
     aloud.
INTERGRATION OF KNOWLEDGE AND IDEAS  
     CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RL.2.7 Use information gained from the illustrations and words in a 
     print or digital text to demonstrate understanding of its characters, setting, or plot.

     spelled one-syllable words.

     and provide a concluding statement or section.

     a topic, use facts and definitions to develop points, and provide a concluding

Important Notes for Class:
We will have one 2-3 minute brain break per class.
Some students might need small group/1:1 intervention to be successful in this course (Small group/1:1 tutoring will be offered on Fridays as needed) 
The syllabus may be adjusted as needed to support learner's needs and growth

This course will use the Raz-Plus curriculum. The curriculum is used for elementary students. No subscriptions are required. These tools will we used in our online lessons during class with minimal downloading/printing.

Learners need to know the foundations of reading, writing, phonics, and grammar. My reading assessment class is a recommend prerequisite to determine which class would fit the needs of your child best.
