Get ready to learn how these flying machines work! Learn about the science that makes these takeoff and how pilots navigate. We will also view a few short clips of real flights and famous experiences of each. Inspired by our lesson, we will create our very own crafts each session, and students can display their very own 3D creations in their homes! Week 1: Hot Air Balloons Ever wondered how hot air balloons liftoff? We will answer that and much more in week 1 of our flight series. Followed by a 3D hot air balloon craft that can hang from your doorway or ceiling. Week 2: Planes and Helicopters How does such a heavy build stay up in the air? We'll look at some of the early ideas for planes, what finally worked, and how modern planes look today. Also, what are the major differences between planes and helicopters? This lesson is followed with the folds to 2 fun paper airplanes that really fly. Week 3: Rockets Soaring higher? You'd need a rocket for this one! We'll learn about the physics of rocket blastoff and how far they really can go. Afterwards, we'll make a display rocket. We'll also discuss ways to make a working water bottle rocket at home and instructions provided for anyone who wants to try after the class. A supply list for the crafts will be sent out prior to the class start date. Supply list will be kept simple and concise, utilizing mostly common craft supplies.
