Experiencia de clase

Grado de EE. UU. 6 - 8
As a self-paced class, it's all about how quickly you want to go through it. The student will be responsible for reading the chapter in their own time outside of class. There will be slideshow/video via PowerPoint presentation discussing the chapter and the social implications behind them. As someone who was assigned the book in public middle school as a child, I understand how politics doesn't always compute with adolescents. In this class we will talk about peer pressure and propaganda, how friends and leaders can use the need to fit in and the desire to help to control other's behavior to help explain what happened during the Russian revolution.

Chapter 1 Old Major's Dream
Chapter 2 The Rebellion
Chapter 3 Organization of the Farm
Chapter 4 The Battle of the Cowshed
Chapter 5 Napoleon Seizes Power
Chapter 6 It was Snowball
Chapter 7 The Slaughter House
Chapter 8 The Battle of the Windmill
Chapter 9 Boxer's Death
Chapter 10 Manor Farm

There will be handouts for each chapter for the students to complete. Some will include outside reading materials as well as chapter quizzes. It will take up to a week for me to grade and get back.

Halfway through the students will research a key figure in the Russian revolution and write an essay on that leaser. At the end the student will write a longer essay describing the political climate of the book and comparing it to the political climate of today. Students are encouraged to write about their own culture, society, and country since not everyone will be from the same place and have the same ideas. As this is not an English/writing class, and not everyone has English as a first language, I will be grading based on the student's ability to understand and explain their opinions on the book and not their grammar and spelling.

Perfil
Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
Licenciatura en Historia desde UMass Lowell
Grado asociado desde Mass Bay
I have a degree in History as well as passed my teaching test in Massachusetts. I use my love of History and facts to help children understand that history is conceived of real people who did real things. I found Social Studies class boring as a child because the teachers concentrated mostly on dates and statistics rather than the humans behind the events. I use the historical documents and primary sources to bring the past to life.
