In this learner-directed, ongoing class, we will engage in back and forth conversations while strengthening our gameplay for our favorite online game, Roblox! ***Please complete the checklist listed below prior to class start*** We will start the class with brief introductions, then some simple guidelines with what to expect from the class. Each learner will give their game choice and a private server will be purchased by myself and setup immediately. Time will be divided equally between each participant. Students will click the link in the Zoom chat that will take them to a private server where only enrolled students can join. We will practice prompting with questions, discuss subjects with interest, and implement back and forth verbal communication. Students will also be taught how to approach an opinion that they don't agree with and how to handle that situation in the best manner. We will talk about what makes the levels we play challenging or too easy. Last, we will all share some tips and tricks in order to strengthen our gameplay. My goal is to allow students to have a comfortable, social learning environment where they can practice their social skills and learn from others while talking about their favorite topic, online gaming. This class is a no pressure class, we are here to have fun and play well with our friends while learning! Classroom Checklist / 5 steps for success: 1. Make sure your current operating system is able to handle running Zoom without major lag. Students like to share their screens to display art, videos, edits, etc. with their friends. Gaming classes require more bandwidth to run Roblox and Zoom at the same time. Students may use two devices to avoid lag, if needed. https://support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/articles/201362023-Zoom-system-requirements-Windows-macOS-Linux https://support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/articles/201362233-Upgrading-Zoom-to-the-latest-version 2. You are responsible for your devices to be up to date prior to each and every class. Please check with your manufacturer for direct instructions (major operating systems are listed below as examples). https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201222 https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/get-the-latest-windows-update-7d20e88c-0568-483a-37bc-c3885390d212 https://support.google.com/chromebook/answer/177889?hl=en 3. Run a speed test to make sure your device can handle running Zoom efficiently. https://www.speedtest.net 4. Please make sure your Roblox is updated to the newest version before each and every class. You can do so by opening the website on your computer or opening the app on your device. https://www.roblox.com/home 5. To help your learner model successful behavior and keep safe in class, please have them view this video prior to joining Zoom. This is only required to be viewed before your first class meeting. https://stream.mux.com/kmrBIYzF02O19LGGTnpdYemo02xLL2rJ3Z/high.mp4 **Please note all of these are US-based links. If you are located in a different region, please research for your country requirements/updates prior to class.** If your student still requires technical assistance during class time, please first refer to this list. If all requirements have been met, please contact Outschool immediately for technical support at: https://support.outschool.com/en/ ONGOING CLASS AND REFUND POLICY: This is an ongoing class and you will be billed weekly (on Sundays) for the following week's class. Stopping your subscription after class begins or after the 24 hour period will stop any future charges, but will not result in a refund of your most recent payment. Only the following situations guarantee parents a full refund, regardless of class-specific refund policies. Please contact us at https://outschool.com/help if you need additional help with a refund for any of these reasons: * Parents receive a full refund if they withdraw from a class of any type within 24 hours of purchase. Note that the 24-hour refund window only applies until the class’s start time, at which point the class-specific refund policy will apply. * A full refund is also provided if a parent stops their ongoing class subscription within 24 hours of auto-renewal. As above, this applies until the class’s start time, at which point the ongoing class refund policy will apply. * Parents receive a full refund if the teacher cancels in advance of the class’s first meeting time. * In the event that a teacher changes the date or time of a class meeting before the class’s start date, parents may request a full refund. https://support.outschool.com/en/articles/16379-outschool-s-happiness-guarantee-and-refunds Please know by enrolling in this class you are agreeing to the guidelines listed in the Code of Conduct and Outschool safety policies. If your student does not follow these rules, they may be contacted by Outschool's safety team or withdrawn from the class completely. https://support.outschool.com/en/articles/5536590-content-moderation-guidelines-for-learners Students are encouraged to show up to class on time due to gameplay time limits. If you show up after class start, you might not be able to pick your game choice. Students that arrive more than 10 minutes late might be refused entry in order not to disrupt the current game/class. Hello! I'm Mrs. Debra, a lifelong Florida resident happily married and dedicated to homeschooling my three amazing children with disabilities for over a decade. I've had the privilege of guiding them from elementary to high school, even supporting my older children with their college degrees.
I take pride in having achieved numerous accomplishments on this amazing educational platform since I joined in 2020. I'd like to express my gratitude to Outschool, my families, and my students for their invaluable support in achieving these milestones:
Top 25 Outstanding Educator on Outschool for 2023
The “Star Educator” badge for meeting outstanding performance criteria, ratings, and metrics
ACE Educator status for completing continuing education and learning opportunities on the platform
2x Featured Educator in an article highlighting Outschool’s Best in Class
Award Winner for Outschool’s Best in Class 2022 - Most Popular Class (Group)
Award Winner for Outschool’s Best in Class 2023 - Most Popular Class (Group)
I've been an active volunteer in the community for over a decade, lending my support to various organizations like the Special Olympics, local disability support groups, and several Autism support groups, which I continue to be involved with today.
As a disabled, neurodivergent individual, I bring valuable experience working with a wide range of individuals, including autistic children and adults, those with ADHD, OCD, developmental and intellectual disabilities, social anxiety, mental disorders, and physical disabilities. In my social club classes, students have the opportunity to develop communication skills, expand their vocabulary, enhance reading and listening abilities, all while engaging with exciting themes that capture their interest. My ultimate aim is to create a nurturing and enjoyable social learning environment where students can put their social skills to use, learn from one another, and discuss their favorite topics in a fun and engaging manner.
Teaching is my passion, and I understand that every student learns uniquely and at their own pace. Online learning offers a vast canvas for exploring various approaches to make education not only effective but also enjoyable! I take pride in assisting those in need of additional support, whether it's for their schooling or everyday tasks, all while targeting specific goals. I firmly believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to achieve their aspirations, and learning should never be tedious or challenging. I'm here to equip students with the skills they need for success.
In my downtime, I enjoy the company of my three rescue dogs – Sally, Jack, and Eli. I'm an avid traveler with a love for exploring new destinations. As a Coach, I have a passion for sports and travel to support my players and teams when I can (GO RED SOX)! Additionally, I highly value student suggestions when it comes to books, shows, games, and more; they've introduced me to countless wonderful experiences.
