Though the SAT essay has recently been retired, using the SAT essay prompt is a fantastic way to prepare for high school and college writing assignments.

This is an extended version of my popular 3-week course, "Rhetorical Analysis Essay Workshop. Write sample SAT Essays with a Former Scorer." I've had a few requests from previous learners and their parents to have a lengthened SAT essay class. So by popular demand, here is the class that you've been waiting for!

This course will be similar in its objectives as the 3-week course, but learners will have more time to absorb information. Students will write 3 sample SAT essays and an additional essay revision, instead of the 2 essay assignments in the 3-week course. This class will prepare students to be more effective writers. They will learn guidelines to writing an analytical essay. They will receive instruction on how standardized tests generally score essays and furthermore, principles to writing an accomplished essay. 

We will discuss general principles for all accomplished essays, whether they are for a standardized test or not. Students can expect to learn about maintaining readers' interest, the three artistic proofs (ethos, logos, pathos), transitions, cohesiveness, and precise word choice.

Outside of class, students will practice writing essays in response to retired SAT writing prompts. They will also read other students' essays to better understand the caliber of writing that is expected to achieve each score point. Students will learn what it takes to write a cohesive and accomplished essay. I will give an estimated score for their practice exam essays at the beginning, middle, and end of class to show their progress.

At the end of class, students will be better prepared to write effective essays for high school and college.
