*** If there are no sessions for this class, I recommend PAINT WITH YOUR WORDS creative writing and poetry class: https://outschool.com/classes/47471bfc-7fde-43c2-b92f-b51be262b80b/schedule#ususvfOz63 or my FLEX course https://outschool.com/classes/creative-writing-and-poetry-paint-with-your-words-ARM7mD1J?usid=usvfOz63&signup=true&utm_campaign=share_activity_link In this drop-in, one time class, students release their individual creativity through learning a few P.A.I.N.T. with your words techniques. We will use visual (photos and abstract pictures) and auditory (music) prompts along with the strong sentence formula to help them think deeper about their writing. After a 15 minute discussion on descriptive, active writing, students decide whether they're inspired to write a short story, character journal entry, poem, or novel scene. For 10 minutes, student will write without interruption. They will engage the right side of their brain and turn their editor off. During this writing time, they will be put in small break out rooms (peer partners or alone by request) where individual help will be available to anyone with writer's block. Usually, students are able to find the answer they're looking for in their story or poem just by me asking the right questions. After writing, we will spend the remaining time in class sharing their work, which is optional but encouraged. Students can share positive encouragement to one another. Even though the instructions and prompt were the same for everyone, their personal experience, unique voice, and perspective will make each piece different and unique.

My love of writing started when I was 8 years old and hasn't stopped.
I'm a published author, writing teacher, and tutor who developed these creative writing techniques when I started teaching an elective course at my kids' school over 10 years ago. I found that the novel writing books on the market held too much information for teens who just wanted to write their book, so I created one that is fun and easy to follow. What I offer my students is more content and advance techniques that other teachers may shy away from due to the complexity of the material. Over the years, I've found a way to simplify these teachings and make them fun!
“If you are thinking about publishing a book, she’s amazing. If you just want to write a story, she’s amazing. I highly recommend her classes.”– Katherine, teen writer
