In this course, students will learn about a different historical event each day through an inclusive perspective that shows multiple sides of the story. Over the course of four days, students will learn about Christopher Columbus's life, his voyages, and the destruction he caused when he came in contact with indigenous populations, The Louisiana Purchase, and Lewis and Clark's ventures across the U.S. that could not have happened without the presence of York and Sacagawea, The Trail of Tears and its unfair, devastating effects on native groups across the country, and the attack on Pearl Harbor, what provoked it, and how it caused the United States to enter World War II.

Students will spend each session creating a comic strip while listening to a lecture, viewing slides, and watching brief clips. We will make history come to life through students' creativity as they use course content to form their own thoughts, opinions, and comics. I believe that learning doesn't need to be a painful process. Any subject can be fun if approached the right way. There is no prior knowledge required; while there is a suggested age range, all learners are welcome to join!

Metas de aprendizaje

Learners will have a clear understanding of the presented key figures, events, details, and effects. Students will see historical events from multiple perspectives and acknowledge that there are multiple sides of history that defy the "traditional" historical viewpoint. They will be able to summarize the main points discussed in each week's class: Christopher Columbus, Lewis and Clark, The Trail of Tears, and Pearl Harbor. Students will demonstrate comprehension of materials while completing a weekly comic strip depicting the topics covered in class.
