Experiencia de clase

**As requested by "Real Talk" learners! New topic, more meetings, longer class!** In this class, teen learners will have a safe space to discuss what it's like to have a learning disability or difference, and the issues that come up for them personally, socially, in school, at home, and on the job. There will be one to two topics covered each week, with lots of discussion around these topics and how they affects the learners.

Topics to be covered:
-Feelings - what emotions come up around our learning disabilities and differences
-Representation - learning disabilities in the media, including books, TV, and movies
-Compensatory strategies - ways we can help ourselves, restructuring and individualizing to meet our needs, executive functioning
-Insensitive classmates - what to do, how to deal with other teens, hiding (or not hiding) our disabilities/differences
-Beyond the classroom - learning disabilities/differences on the job and in our social lives
-Advocacy - how to speak up for yourself, how to get your needs met, 504 plans, IEPs

Learners will participate in lecture, asking and answering questions, and commenting. Teacher will give presentation and then leave time for moderated discussion.
