This class is for learners who have the beginning reading skills down but who need practice with vocabulary, fluency and comprehension. Foundational skills are taught in K-3rd but often students miss the instruction and practice they need in the next steps. Fluency is the ability to read words correctly and automatically while using the appropriate expression. Comprehension is an understanding of the text and subtext. Students will learn to use context clues to figure out meanings and make inferences.

I have a reading tutoring class for learners who are still working on their foundational reading skills as well and that class is only 20 minutes for each slot. Because this class is designed for students who are already reading some on their own, it is set up as a 30 minute slot for each meeting. If you have a child who is still in the foundational skills level and you want a longer 30 minute session, you may sign them up for this 30 minute tutoring class and then you can send me a message letting me know. 

Parents, it is helpful if you reach out and let me know your goals for your child after you have signed up. This helps me have an idea of what materials to have for our first session.

I have been teaching children to read for more than 18 years. I started by leading a first grade reading group for an entire school year when I was younger. I taught in a brick and mortar classroom for 7 years. I worked in a tutoring center for more than 3 years. I ran a children’s ministry for 2 years. I have now been teaching online for 3 years on other platforms, primarily as a reading tutor, while I also homeschool my own children.

This class can be extended for as long as tutoring is needed and can also be cancelled anytime. Thank you for considering me!

Reading is a passion for me. I love to find a good book and get lost in the story. It is my goal to share my love of reading with each of my students and help them discover a love for reading too. 

I use stories from resources like education.com and Epic. I also create some of my own materials.
