This course is based on the science of reading which includes phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension activities.  

This course is for  students who are ready to take the next step in their reading journey. Students should confidently know their letters and corresponding sounds.  They need to have a firm grasp of the sounds that vowels make.   Students should also be able to easily sound out CVC words.   In this course, students will be introduced to advanced phonetic patterns.  These patterns will include diagraphs, vowel combinations, R-controlled vowels, and unusual spelling patterns.  

The session is designed to engage learners through multi-sensory activities such as tapping out words, segmenting words using chopping motions, air printing, and moving magnetic letters on a board.  Each session will begin with a quick phonemic awareness lesson to activate the learners' listening skills. Students will be introduced to a new phonetic concept then we will make words using the new concept.  We will finish our lesson by reading decodable passages that include the new and previously taught concepts.
