As an elementary classroom I have taught the reading unit Reading Biographies: Getting to know Famous People. When teaching reading about the biography genre, I found that this is one of the best ways to engage young learners to learn about historical events that impacted our history and changed the world. This unit of study helps the young readers develop an understanding of historical information gaining literacy in reading that builds their independence in reading. I have seen students develop a better understanding of the world in which we live.
