Learners will be introduced to basic key components of Reader’s Theatre and be guided in the art of oral reading through an engaging script. The scripts are either original works or adapted from children’s literature and/or illustrations and displayed on a shared screen.

The learner will become familiar with the script through a read aloud, reviewing key vocabulary in question and rehearsal readings of the script. Each class will end in a final performance!

Reading content will remain at the elementary level with the goal for learners to not be too challenged by unknown vocabulary so they can master their parts to perform. Fluency is best improved when a student is reading text at an “instructional” or “independent” level and provided opportunity to become familiarized with the text.
(As a bonus, learner’s comprehension naturally improves as they begin to read for meaning as the result of steady paced fluency.)

Character names are color coded to help learners more easily maintain or locate their place within the script as a visual cue for their upcoming part.

Learners who need encouragement to read aloud would benefit and improve oral reading ability. Reluctant readers have positive experiences through an alternative method of reading! Aspiring stage performers will gain confidence, too!

The class is great for siblings, homeschool groups or as an activity during a club meeting.

(This class runs well with groups as learners can share devices; however, to participate, each child must have individual paid enrollment. Requests for possible evening or Saturday scheduling is welcomed.)

This class also offers a sibling or group discount of 10%. To receive a discount; one learner must have paid enrollment and remain enrolled for the class. There is no limit to discounts (a group of 4, for example, one paid enrollment & three discounted enrollments). Discounts will be refunded at enrollment for all qualifying learners.

Perfil
Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
Miss Rochelle specifically studied, participated in Reader's Theatre in Children's Literature class in conjunction with English and Child Development degrees. Additionally, she participated in Reader's Theatre events as a member of the college department's English Honor Society. As a special education teacher, Miss Rochelle used Reading Theatre as a strategy to encourage, bring forth and strengthen reading fluency for students. She has written original scripts, created dialogue from narration or illustrations and adapted children's literature. Recognizing the "out of the box" method, she used the technique out of best practices and because it is just plain ole' fun!
