Rather Be Reading is a book club that meets once a week to discuss the week's reading assignments. Each week will begin with a review of the week's chapters and check the readers' comprehension of vocabulary, characters, plot, and other story elements. We will extend the reading through fun, engaging activities to make text-to-text, text-to-self, and text-to-world connections.
Judy Moody and her little brother, Stink, live in Virginia, USA. It hasn't snowed there a long time and didn't look like that was going to change anytime soon. That is until their new mailman, Jack Frost (what are the chances?), shows up and announces this year could be different.
Nate the Great is the greatest detective, being able to solve any mystery with his friend Annie and his dog Sludge. Annie's dog, Fang, is missing a Christmas package, and it is up to Nate and Sludge to find that package in time!
Junie B. Jones is celebrating Christmas with her class in Room One. But things aren't as jolly as they could be when she discovers her secret Santa. Can Junie B. Jones make the best of the situation?
In this class, we are going to read three Christmas stories from classic children's books characters. Pre-reading activities will prepare learners for the following week's reading with vocabulary, characters, and predictions. Post-reading activities will start with a discussion about the week's reading, check learners' comprehension, and do individual or group activities related to the book such as mysteries, games, illustrations, and creative writing through sites like Nearpod, and Kahoot.

This class does not promote a specific religion or religious point of view. It follows Outschool's Class Content Policy and focuses on the story.
Though the focus is on reading discussions and literacy activities, it is possible for some learners to share their beliefs or nonbeliefs of Santa, and views of Christmas.

I have been volunteering and teaching in brick-and-mortar schools since 2013, and teaching online since 2021. I love teaching language arts (especially reading and writing), math, world cultures, K-Pop, and I am a huge fan of Disney. I want to share my passion for learning with students who have similar interests! I hope to encourage a passion for learning, inspire ideas for new interests and hobbies, and provide unique learning experiences for each student.
My classes cater to small group settings, with six or fewer learners in each class. This small group setting provides more opportunities for teacher-learner and learner-learner interactions. I structure my classes and lessons to encourage student discussion and interaction. There are many chances to ask and answer questions. The discussion questions are usually open-ended to allow learners to think creatively about an answer and lead to more personalized discussions.
I studied, trained, and became certified to be an elementary K-5 school teacher in America, then traveled abroad to teach English in Asia. I taught ESL to Korean middle and high schoolers for four years and finished a 120-hour young learners and teenagers TEFL/TESOL certification. While living in Asia, I took the opportunity to visit many countries and learn about new places and study new languages. I have been studying Korean since September 2017.
I look forward to when I can travel again! But from the comfort of home, I love still being able to connect with students all over the world through Outschool’s online classes!
