Starting to study for the SAT English section in middle school can feel *really* early...because it is! But the wonderful thing of starting so early is having the luxury of time. I have so many students who begin studying two months before they need to submit their scores to universities, and while you can absolutely improve your score in two months, leaving it to junior year means more stress and cramming. In this middle school English class, I will introduce students to the SAT and the English skills which are tested. But more than that, I also hope to help middle schoolers build skills which will prepare them for high school. For example, instead of having them simply memorize punctuation rules, I'll include optional homework for them to learn how to properly punctuate their sentences. What you can expect from this class: Each week, we'll focus on one reading question type or one grammar concept. We'll start with reading. After presenting the question type and walking through the strategies of how to answer it correctly, we'll spend time working on practice questions. Then, it'll be time for grammar. We'll discuss the rules and ways to approach the questions. Finally, we'll spend time dissecting some grammar practice questions. *Please note: The SAT has two sections: English and Math. This class ONLY covers English and does NOT cover Math. .... What you’ll get as my student… -All the information you’ll need for the new Digital PSAT English section, including a run-down of the different types of questions, memorization techniques for grammar rules, and strategies for test day -A teacher who is there to motivate you to keep studying and who will always pick you up when you feel overwhelmed or frustrated (because trust me this test can be overwhelming and frustrating) -A safe judgment-free classroom environment where you learn with and from your classmates What you’ll do outside of class… -A pre-test (which I’ll message you right when you enroll) -Homework (usually studying with pre-made Quizlets or passage practice) -Post-test (after the last class) …. Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
2 Grado
Maestría en Inglés desde Florida International University
Licenciatura en Inglés desde University of Florida
I graduated from university (twice!) with zero dollars of student debt.
Not having debt has allowed me to travel far, live freely, and take chances (like starting this very Outschool page), experiences I otherwise might not have been able to do.
There are several reasons why I was able to do this (like the fact that Florida state schools are *relatively* affordable). But a key reason was my SAT score.
My SAT score not only got me into a top five public university, it also got me a scholarship to go there.
When I was studying for the SAT, I had to rely on free, online materials, which were dry, confusing, and (oftentimes) unhelpful. That experience motivates me to create something different for my students: quality, accessible classes, which actually help them boost their score.
In my classes, I teach what I know: The English language. Two degrees in linguistics, a minor in literature, and my continuous love for the language has prepared me for teaching everything from the technical aspects of when to use a comma to the inferential aspects of how to interpret a text. My goal is to not only help students prepare effectively for the SAT, but to also help them build skills that they’ll use in university, and beyond.
Apart from SAT classes, I also offer PSAT preparation and literature coaching.
I hope to see you in one of my classes soon!
