I provide tutoring to help learners become better readers and writers; increase their comprehension skills; and strengthen their grammar skills.  We will focus on phonics/phonemic awareness to increase your learner's reading fluency.  We will also work on reading passages that are tailored to your learner's needs and interests, and do corresponding follow-up activities to strengthen their comprehension, and provide opportunities to incorporate writing in a variety of fun, relevant, and relatable ways to build on their skills and enable them to extend their writing capacity.  I help them to accomplish these goals through open discussions and a variety of activities including PowerPoint slides showing text of vocabulary, short stories, and plays that they will read along with visual representations to aid in understanding, individual and collaborative writing assignments, and educational games, such as Kahoot and Blooket as informal assessment tools and to deepen student interaction, engagement, and comprehension.   

These objectives will be further accomplished by adding in corresponding activities in IXL and Readworks for further practice and understanding when needed.  Also, where applicable, brief YouTube clips may occasionally be shown to aid in understanding of a particular topic. The learners are not required to bring a journal to class because most of their written work will be done interactively, but I do recommend bringing a journal because it could prove beneficial for them to retain the work that they have done.   

My teaching style is highly learner centered.  I am more of a facilitator, setting the guidelines for what needs to be accomplished.  The learners are highly encouraged to interact with each other, participate via chat and/or verbally when answering questions.
