One-on-one tutoring sessions are tailored to each student's educational needs and learning style. Scheduling sessions for once or twice a week is recommended. I aim to make learning fun by teaching through games!

Reading is a complex process involving, phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. As complex as it is for children to develop and use all of these skills in concert, it can be even more difficult for us as adults untangle it all and identify which skills may be causing them to struggle. 

Once you enroll, I'll contact you gain insights as to your learner's goals so I can prepare appropriate assessments and introductory activities. In the first few sessions, I'll assess for gaps in your child's foundational reading skills.

Once skill gaps have been identified, I'll plan activities targeted to strengthen those specific skills in a fun way. With a personalized and targeted approach, we may see rapid improvement in individual skills. I'll regularly reassess to monitor progress and shift the focus skills for our lessons as needed. Soon, your child will be integrating their improved isolated skills into their everyday reading. 

ACTIVITY TYPES

- Phonemic Awareness: Silly auditory/oral word games to manipulate words by addition, deletion, and substitution of phonemes. 

- Phonics: Interactive, word games using virtual letter tiles or other tactile tools to arrange letters according to the targeted phonics skill.

- Fluency: Learn a set of effective decoding skills and practice fluency through, repeated readings of short texts, echo reading. 

- Vocabulary & Comprehension: Vocabulary is best learned in context rather than in isolation, so vocabulary instruction will be imbedded in comprehension instruction. We'll use a combination of guided reading and comprehension games to strengthen comprehension skills. Understanding of a text is the ultimate goal of reading and requires   the integration of all literacy skills. We'll make inferences, compare and contrast, visualize, sequence events, summarize, identify main idea , details, problems and solutions, causes and effects with a variety of texts and games.
