This class provides students access to a high school math teacher with a master’s degree in Education and experience teaching Algebra and Geometry…in order to ask questions about the math problems that are most important to the student. How does it work? Each week, each student may submit as many as five problems from Prealgebra, Algebra 1, or Geometry that they need help solving or working through. I'll record a video working through the problem, modeling the self-questioning and reasoning that students should be using as they complete similar problems. I’ll post it in the classroom for all the students to access. Students can then submit follow up questions if they have any, and we'll continue a classroom dialogue there as needed. To keep things as organized as possible, I post the sessions for the week all at once on Mondays at 8 am EST. This class is about Algebra concepts of all sorts!❎🔢📈 Student questions may include any Prealgebra or Algebra 1 topic, including factoring, solving equations, inequalities, exponential, quadratic, and linear functions, polynomials, graphing, arithmetic and geometric sequences, and systems of equations. ...And Geometry concepts!🔳🔴📐 Student questions may include any Geometry topic, including parallel lines, congruent triangles, similar triangles, circle theorems, right triangle trig, parallelograms, coordinate geometry, Pythagorean theorem, transformations, and constructions. 📢FAQ: When will questions be answered? In general, students should expect the answer on the following day (for example, Monday questions are answered on Tuesday, etc.) ...but often, I'll go ahead and post my video answers earlier, when they are ready. Questions received after Thursday (end of work day) should be expected on the following Monday. Students may ask questions and have conversations about any of the Algebra problems, not just their own. This is an engaging, student-driven, collaborative classroom setting. Since this is a flex class, students can participate during the days and times that work best for them. They are required to be active participants and will need to check in and participate at least twice per week. I love working with students in this way--at their pace, on the Algebra concepts that they find important. Having an Algebra tutor for homework help can make all the difference in your learner’s success in high school math. Here are two reviews from previous Study Hall students: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Mrs. Kennedy has helped my teenage daughter tremendously, who told me she "really likes her teaching style." And as a single parent, I've really appreciated the more affordable "Study Hall" sessions, where she may have up to 3 students she gives help with homework questions etc. Great idea that I believe many students would benefit from. What I've most appreciated is how my daughters confidence has been steadily increasing, under Mrs. Kennedy's tutelage, concerning her ability to succeed in math overall. Also, I thought it may be helpful for my daughter (the student) to add her own comments; "Mrs. Kennedy is very kind and patient. She's quite thorough when she goes through the math problems, and at the end she always makes sure I understand the formulas, and how to get to the answers! She's also given me lots of great tips that'll be helpful in the future, as well as study guides with practice questions, which have been very helpful when I needed to prepare for tests/quizzes. She makes me feel like she cares about me and wants to help me succeed in math, which has never been my best subject. I find myself looking forward to my tutoring/study hall sessions with Mrs. Kennedy each week, which is shocking, because I normally don't like math class at all! She has honestly been more kind & helpful than my actual math teacher!" (The 15 year old student) -Rhonda C. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Mrs. Kennedy is very personable and patient. She has helped our daughter with understanding difficult material. So thankful she got into the class! -Heather I. I specialize in working with students who struggle with math. Questions? As always, feel free to message me here on Outschool.

Is your learner failing math?
Does your teen say things like…
I can’t do math!
I’ll never get this.
I’m going to fail this math class!
I’m so dumb.
Well, you’re in the right place.
HI! I’m Mary Kennedy, certified math teacher, and I love working with students who struggle with high school math and doubt that they can do it.
I've taught Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2 and have more than 20 years of teaching experience. My Master's degree is in Learning Disabilities.
In my classes, students connect their learning to critical thinking skills (includes reasoning, analysis, and perseverance) and growth mindset (“I haven’t learned this YET.”).
I strive to make the math concepts accessible to struggling learners.
Help your teen regain confidence and learn the skills they need to pass Algebra.
Don’t let math continue to disrupt your family’s life.
About Mrs. K.
I do life in a tiny tourist town with my husband and three kids (when they're home from college).
Twice, my family has had the unique and wonderful experience of hosting students from Southeast Asia in our home and community. We have maintained friendships with these students and their families for several years now through technology, despite our geographic distance.
I love working with students from every country and encourage their language skills in my math classes.
