Welcome to our comprehensive Pre-Algebra class, meticulously designed to align with the Common Core standards and cater to middle school students. Course Overview Our Pre-Algebra class covers a wide range of essential topics, including: Algebraic Expressions: Students will learn to understand and manipulate algebraic expressions, including simplifying expressions and solving for variables. Integers and Rational Numbers: The course will delve into the properties of integers and rational numbers, teaching students how to perform operations with these numbers and understand their applications. Equations and Inequalities: Students will explore how to solve linear equations and inequalities, developing skills that are crucial for algebra and beyond. Ratios and Proportions: This section will help students understand and solve problems involving ratios, proportions, and percentages, which are vital for real-world applications. Geometry Basics: The course will introduce basic geometric concepts, including the properties of shapes, area, and volume calculations. Data Analysis and Probability: Students will learn to interpret data, create graphs, and understand basic probability, enhancing their analytical skills. Class Schedule: Week of September 2nd: Rational Numbers ***Know that there are numbers that are not rational, and approximate them by rational numbers. Week of September 9th: Solving Equations with Rational Numbers ***fractions and decimals to find the value of a variable. Week of September 16th: Graphs Bar Graphs Line Graphs Pie Charts Coordinate Plane Graphs Histograms. Scatter Plots Week of September 23rd: Functions, Equations, Tables, and Graphs additional topics TBD. Please come to class with a pencil and paper.
