Campamento de contenido básico de Pokémon (matemáticas, habilidades de alfabetización, ciencias y más)

In this ongoing class, learners will use Pokémon cards to review and extend knowledge in core content areas. 

By connecting learning to a high-interest activity (Pokémon!), learners will have increased motivation to engage with core standards, result in much deeper learning and permanence.    (NOTE: There will be time in each class to share cards, chat, and connect with peers.)

Each session, various aspects of Pokémon will be applied to a core content objective. The weeks will be organized as followed:

4/19: Pokémon Syllables - After a mini-lesson on syllable types, we will use Pokémon names to apply knowledge of syllable types to improve decoding and reading fluency. 

4/26: Pokémon Poetry - As a group, we will review the elements of poetry. We will apply the elements of poetry as we work as a group to create a piece of poetry about a voted-on Pokémon. 

5/3: Pokémon Math - We will begin with a mini-lesson on regrouping, and then use HP and CP on Pokémon cards to practice addition and subtraction with regrouping.

5/10: Pokémon Science - In this session, we will identify some real-life Pokémon. We will explore facts about the real-life creatures, and create graphic organizers to chart facts, adaptations, and correlations to the Pokémon.

5/17: Pokémon Reading - After a mini-lesson on main idea and supporting details, the group will read a nonfiction Pokémon text together to identify the main idea. We will then select the supporting details.
