🎶 Homework will not be assigned, however, class participation will be necessary! 🎶 Students will be encouraged to share their thoughts throughout. 🎶 Students will be provided with fill-in-the-blank notes to ensure no one gets left behind. 🎶 These notes will be filled in during class. 🎶 The central text will be shared on-screen so no link to 3rd party resources is necessary.
Evaluación
🎶 Students will be provided fill-in-the-blank notes with short reflection sections that will allow them to individually practice reflection, analysis, and abstract thought. 🎶 These notes will be completed by the end of class (if someone misses blanks in their notes we will spend a short amount of time at the end of class to go back through and make sure everyone gets caught up).

🗣️ CLASS SYNOPSIS 🗣️
🎶 Students will learn all about the rhythm of poetry, known as meter, and how poets use stressed and unstressed syllables, metrical feet, iambs, trochees, dactyls, and anapests to accomplish it in their poems

🗣️ OVERVIEW/DETAILS 🗣️
🎶 Two weeks, one 55 minutes class per week
🎶 Class time includes in-class comprehension/discussion questions, a powerpoint lesson, and provided skeleton notes
🎶 Lesson will cover the elements of Meter
🎶 Metrical rhythms (iamb, dactyl, anapest, trochee) and feet (dimeter, trimeter, tetrameter, etc)
🎶 Students will practice identifying rhythm and feet

🗣️ TEACHING STYLE 🗣️
    🎶 Student-to-student discussion and interaction
🎶 I aim to facilitate conversation, protect think-time, and posing questions that provoke deeper thought based on the central text.
🎶 I love interacting with my students! I will be apart of the conversation as well 😁
🎶 Lessons will be shared to ensure all students comprehend concepts and themes
🎶 While students will be challenged to think deeply, their perspective will always be encouraged and celebrated.
🎶 I hope that students feel as welcomed to think as they are challenged in their thinking.
🎶 Down-to-earth discussions and I love an occasional tangent so that learning is organic!

https://outschool.com/classes/middle-school-poetry-class-discerning-sonnets-sonnet-18-by-shakespeare-K7raysZl?usid=HjYuHv99&signup=true&utm_campaign=share_activity_linkOne of the most difficult aspects of poetry for learners to perceive is meter! Poetry is extremely musical in that it is emotional, beautiful, and has a rhythm. But how can words not backed by accompanying instruments do this?
Metas de aprendizaje
Students will use the class text (How Happy is the Little Stone by Emily Dickinson) to learn about the stressed, unstressed, and secondary stresses within words and how to identify them. They will also learn about the four metrical feet of poetry (iamb, trochee, dactyl, and anapest) and how to identify them within poems.
