Each week, the student will be asked to complete a portion of the pattern outside of the class's designated time. The length of time that this will take depends on the crochet speed of the learner. During the class, we will work on starting the different portions of the project. The students will then work independently during the week to complete the indicated portion of the project. The entire project will NOT be completed during JUST the class time. The teacher is available during the week to answer any questions that the students may have.Experiencia de clase
If your student is interested in learning that art of amigurumi crochet, this course will provide all of the basics! Your student will learn all the skills necessary to make a stuffed pig. Those skills, in turn, can be applied to other amigurumi animals. Each week is broken down into the different steps that are needed to create the pig. **Students should know the single crochet stitch.** **Please see the homework section!** Week One: This first week will be very informational, but it is essential that the students are given time to ask any questions that they may have about the required materials. We will go over all of the supplies that are needed to crochet a pig and learn the magic circle and/or the chain-2 method. We will start the head of our pig by learning how to increase our rounds. When we increase our rounds, we are adding stitches that then make the head wider. **A stitch marker will be needed.* Week Two: We will finish our pig's head by learning how to decrease our rounds. When we decrease our rounds, we are combining two stitches down to one stitch. We will learn how to tie off or close the shape. If you choose to add safety eyes to your pig instead of stitching them on, you will add them in this week. **Poly-fil/stuffing, safety eyes (optional) and a tapestry needle will be needed for these week.** Week Three: We will learn to make one arm/front leg and one ear, using the increases and decreases. Then, we will tie off our work so the stitches do not come out. *Poly-fil/stuffing will be needed.** Week Four: We will make one back leg and one accessory. The legs will be similar to how the arms are made just slightly larger. The students will be given the option to create flowers or bows or both for their pig. **Poly-fil will be needed.** Week Five: We will start the increase for our pig's body. This will be very similar to the process that we used to make the head of our pig. This is a time for review and any other questions about amigurumi. Week Six: We will finish the pig's body by decreasing our rounds. Again, this will be similar to the process we used to make the pig's head. **Poly-fil/stuffing and a tapestry needle will be needed.** Week Seven: We will make a nose and tail. Students could also use this week to finish up any homework that was not completed. Week Eight: We will discuss the techniques needed to sew all of our pieces together. The students will be given the different options of how to position the pieces. Ears up or to the side? Legs standing or sitting? Bow tie or hair bow? Flower in the hand or on the head? The students can get really creative this week! Please reach out to me if you have any questions regarding this course and I would be happy to help! Happy Crocheting! <The pig we are making in class is designed by me and shown in the photo.>

Students WILL need to use scissors and tapestry needles in this class.
**Please note that the you will continue to work on the same project each week, so keep it stored in a safe place when you are not working on it.**
**Safety eyes are only suitable for children aged 3 years and older. Please be aware of this in case there are younger siblings in the house. Safety eyes are completely optional as the amigurumi's eyes, nose, and mouth can be stitched on with a tapestry needle.**

Lista de útiles escolares
Yarn (Any color you would like! If you choose to make your pig's hooves a different color, you will need a second color of the same brand of yarn.) I recommend yarns like Red Heart Super Saver, Caron One Pound, or Big Twist. Crochet Hook (It's best to have a variety of smaller sizes to do crochet. I suggest a 2, 2.5, or 3MM crochet hook.) Scissors Tapestry Needle: they come in a variety of sizes. Just be sure that your yarn can go through the eye of the needle. Stitch Markers: Extra strips of yarn or bobby pins work fine if you do not have these. Poly-fil/stuffing Safety Eyes (Optional) A PDF of this pattern will be posted to the classroom after the first class.

About The Teacher:
I learned to crochet in my middle school home economics class and I've been "hooked" ever since. *pun intended* :D I just did the math and that means that I have been crocheting for 20 years now. Wow!
Crochet is a wonderful hobby to make something creative but also useful. I have made many items such as washcloths, shawls, scarves, stuffed toys, and blankets. Over the years, I have learned that blankets are my absolute favorite item to make. There is a crocheted blanket on every bed in my home...and on every sofa...and some are stored...
I am the type of person that can not just sit and not have my hands be busy. Crochet is the perfect hobby to do while watching your favorite show for the 346th time. My hope for this class is to spark that love of crochet for every student that comes into the classroom. I hope to see you soon!
