Experiencia de clase

This course consists of "traditional style" piano lessons based on a downloadable piano book focusing on the right and left hand C and G positions. This course is designed for learners who have completed some piano instruction, know the finger numbers and have experience playing simple music with both hands. Learners will identify notes on the staff, note names, and note duration as they learn to read music. Learners will be presented with visuals of the songs as well as a keyboard visual to facilitate understanding throughout the lesson. During each class, learners will review previous music terms and songs, learn new songs and skills, and demonstrate good piano playing technique. There will be several activity sheets to complete throughout the course. Learners should practice between classes to improve their skills. Videos of each song will be posted to assist with practice between classes.

While the content in this class does build from week to week, learners can join this class at any time. Instruction is taken in small steps and new songs are introduced each week. When you join the class, I will send you the previous week's song and video so that you may know what the class has been working on given there is enough time between enrollment and the next meeting.

Listed below are the concepts for the course. The pacing may be adjusted as needed.

July 23 - C position, left hand moves during song
August 6 - C position, right hand stretches to A
August 13 - C position, right hand stretches to A
August 20 - G position review
August 27 - C position, pick up note
September 3 - G minor, B-flat and F-sharp
September 10 - G position, octave

While it is not required, individual playing will be optional throughout this course. Arranging your device to show your hands, keeping your video on during class and practicing between classes will optimize learning.
Metas de aprendizaje
The learner will read and play notes on the treble staff and bass staff in C position and G position.

Texas Certificado de Docencia en Música/Teatro/Artes
Hello! My name is Mrs. McArthur and I teach MUSIC! I am a Texas certified all-level music teacher with 29 years of teaching experience, 26 years in public schools and 3 years online and homeschool experience. I have taught preschool through eighth grade General Music and Choir classes. I received a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education with an emphasis in vocal music from Oklahoma Baptist University.

I believe that every learner can make music! Learners need a variety of experiences to learn music skills, including visual, aural and kinesthetic. Given sequential steps, students can achieve well beyond the expectations. When creativity is modeled, learners discover that making mistakes improves music. Learners need opportunities to be creative with choices so they can create on their own terms and interests. By making connections to science, social studies, math and beyond, students learn that subjects don’t exist in isolation. Music is the universal language and learners deserve a chance to explore the world through a musical lens!
