“Piano 101” is a One Time Class for learners with no previous Piano instruction. We will learn the basic fundamentals of playing the piano and learners will get a feel of what piano lessons are like. Learners will also get an idea of what I’m like as a teacher to see if we will be a good fit for future classes. A Piano or Keyboard is very helpful to have, but Learners could still enjoy this class with a Piano App on a Tablet or even a toy Piano. 

Younger learners may need the assistance of an adult sitting next to them off camera. Learners should be able to write the numbers 1-5 and the letters A-G with little to no help. We will also learn how to identify the groups of 2 and 3 black keys as well as where to place their Right Hand on the White Keys. 

Here are some of the things this class will cover.

- The basic skills of how to play the Piano
- The letters of the White Piano keys
- Test the strength of the muscles in your fingers
- Learn how to play a simple song

TIPS FOR A SUCCESSFUL CLASS

1. It will be helpful to see learners' faces and hands during the class. Have learners sitting at a table/desk or piano/keyboard and have your device able to capture them from the head to their lower ribcage. I will be able to offer learners feedback on the use of their hands/fingers this way during the lesson.

2. Please have all Materials ready and Handouts printed prior to starting class. This class is moderately paced to allow just the right amount of information and time to learn a song at the end!

3. At the beginning of our lesson, we will be using our Handouts and writing on them. Please make sure to have a space where this will be possible.

4. Younger learners WILL benefit from having an adult sitting next to them (off camera) for help. Learning the piano virtually is possible, but may need adult supervision to get started. 

5. Ensure learners are in a quiet space or have earphones/buds to allow them to hear the teacher and stay engaged.

6. SUPER IMPORTANT!! Please check your Zoom Audio Settings. I may not be able to hear your learner’s piano, if your Audio is not set correctly. Make sure to have your Audio Set to “Original sound for musicians” or "Original Audio" turned ON and have "Background Suppression" turned OFF.
