1-2 horas por semana. Students will receive assignments/worksheets weekly that will reinforce what was learned in class. The worksheets will be completed on Nearpod using a link that I will provide. The students will NOT be required to login to Nearpod. The assignments/worksheets will provide them with instant feedback on their performance. I will receive a report of their performance once it is completed on the website. If there are parts of the assignments in which students are having trouble i will post additional information to clarify the topic.Experiencia de clase

This is not a live class. This is a flexible schedule class. Each week in this 8-week course students will view an interesting interactive presentation. The class will include recorded demonstrations. On weeks that an experiment is scheduled, I will post a video of me performing the experiment for the students to follow. The students will perform the experiments at home and can post pictures in the Outschool classroom of their final product. Throughout the lesson the learners progress will be assessed through interactive games, quizzes, and questions within the Nearpod presentation. Each week students will complete online activities/worksheets to further reinforce the topic for the week. These activities/worksheets will provide the student with instant feedback on their progress. Each homework activity will display a score on screen after completion. However, a grade report can be provided at the completion of this segment upon request. I will be available through Outschool messaging to offer help for any student that needs additional help. In addition, I will be checking the students progress on the activities and worksheets. If I feel that a topic needs more clarification I will post additional videos to further explain the subject. There is a free textbook that will be used along with this class CK-12 Physical Science for Middle School. This class will cover sections 7, 8 and 10. The book can be freely viewed at CK-12.org (https://flexbooks.ck12.org/cbook/ck-12-middle-school-physical-science-flexbook-2.0/) Topics Covered: Week 1: Introduction to Chemical Bonds Ionic Bonds Week 2: Covalent Bonds Metallic Bonds Week 3: Introduction to Chemical Reactions Week 4: Chemical Equations Week 5: Types of Chemical Reactions Chemical Reactions and Energy Week 6: Introduction to Solutions Week 7: Solubility and Concentration Week 8: Acids and Bases Additional class you maybe interested in: Physical Science for Middle School - Matter Unit (Offered as both a live and flex class) Physical Science for Middle School- Atomic Structure & the Periodic Table (Offered as both a live and flex class) Middle School Physical Science - Motion, Force, Energy, Waves & Electromag. Parents are asked to supervise the learner while conducting the weekly experiments. I will be providing videos each week of myself performing the experiments.
Lista de útiles escolares
Week 1 hot tap water alum Measuring spoons Nylon fishing line (just enough to hang your crystal the 2nd day) 2 jars Spoon Something to cover the jar: coffee filter, paper towel, etc. Note: We will start this lab in class, but it will be completed outside of class. The crystals will be extracted the 2nd day and placed back in the jars to grow an even bigger crystal. Week 2 Polarity Experiment: Pint canning jar with lid 1 cup water Food coloring 1 cup oil 2 teaspoons dish soap Measuring spoons Week 5 Is it Endothermic or Exothermic? Vinegar Baking Soda Measuring spoons Cup Thermometer Week 7 Supersaturated solution: Real or fake flower Borax Water Pot Stove or hot plate Spoon Heat safe jar Food coloring (optional) Something to cover your jar: coffee filter or paper towel Week 8 Acid or Base: Red cabbage Blender Water Strainer pipette or dropper container to hold the cabbage juice 4 clear cups or test tubes Vinegar Laundry Detergent 2 other household items to test for pH Note: The cabbage will need to be blended and the liquid strained prior to class.

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
Licenciatura en Ciencia desde Longwood College
Hi, I am very happy to have the opportunity to help your child learn and realize their full potential in Science. My classes are fun and exciting. Your Learners will learn all about Science while completing cool and fascinating experiments. In each class students will get the opportunity to perform fun but educational labs. They will learn how and why everything works. I'm a Chemist. I obtained a BS in Chemistry and Secondary Education with a minor in Computer Science from Longwood University. I have taught in the public school system teaching Chemistry and Mathematics on the High School level. In addition, I have taught Science classes on the Middle School level. I also teach ESL courses online. I also love crafting and cooking. I began learning to sew, knit, bake and cook at about 8 years old at home and in the 4-H club. Since College I have also fell in love with real estate, and have become a real estate investor. It's like real life monopoly. Real estate investing is fun and challenging all in one.
Currently I am a Chemist for the Department of Transportation. What I do enjoy most about my job with the DOT is when I get the opportunity to work with STEM students throughout the year. They visit and I get to show them all the cool stuff I do at work. I have always had a love for science and teaching. I would always find a way to do experiments and teach my dolls as a kid. I love teaching so much and can't wait to possibly inspire more future Scientist.
