In this 1 on 1 course, students will develop phonological and phonemic awareness skills that are critical in building strong readers. Phonological and phonemic awareness is the foundation of basic reading and includes various skills that range from word discrimination and rhyming to segmenting and manipulating sounds in a word. At the beginning of the first lesson, students will be informally assessed through oral word games to determine a baseline of skills. This course is designed to provide young learners with the foundational phonological and phonemic skills needed to grow as readers. Students will learn and practice skills such as blending, segmenting, and isolating sounds in words through movement and games. Students will have the opportunity to build on the skills they mastered in the previous lesson.

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
Maestría en Educación especial desde Texas Tech University
As a an Educational Diagnostician, I am well versed in the area of phonological and phonemic awareness and the impact on reading outcomes for all students. While I am not a certified Dyslexia Therapist, I am trained in evaluating for the disability and knowledgeable on interventions needed to support students- one of which is direct instruction in phonics. I have spent the majority of my career teaching students with a learning disability how to read.
