During this 8-week course, we will work on phonemic and phonics skills.

We will start by 7-10 minutes if phonemic awareness. These are skills that can be learned in the dark. Beginning sounds, ending sounds, medial sounds, rhymes, syllables, counting words in a sentence, etc.

The  learn a new high frequency word. This will be about 2-3 minutes.

Then we will learn the skill of the week (I.e. digraphs, blends, etc.). I will give examples and work on words together.

Then this will be followed by some writing of the skill taught. I will ask the learner to write words, phrases, and sentences.

Then the last thing to be done is an independent or partner practice activity! This could be sorting words by their skill taught, writing words based on the skill taught, a game where one student will say a word and the other will write, class bingo, roll and read game, and so on.

Class 3: l blends (fl, bl, cl, gl, sl)
Class 4: r blends (br, cr, tr, gr)
Class 5: s blends (sp, sc, st, sn)
Class 6: review previous blends
Class 7: -ing words
Class 8: floss rule (-ss, -ll, -ff)
