Does your child skip over the "hard" words? I created this class for students who are still struggling to decode(read) multi-syllable words. ***IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF THIS CLASS IS APPROPRIATE FOR YOUR LEARNER, PLEASE ENROLL IN MY ONE-TIME CLASS "DIAGNOSTIC DECODING SURVEY.** I WILL SEND YOU THE RESULTS OF YOUR LEARNER'S SPECIFIC AREAS OF WEAKNESS IN DECODING AND ORAL READING FLUENCY.*** I will teach this class using Google Slides, videos, games, discussion, word puzzles, phonics cards, and fluency passages. I will review letter/sound correspondence, the six syllable types, and syllable division rules. In addition, I will teach students how to code vowels in multi-syllable words. Each week we will read short, decodable passages that contain the week's syllable type. My teaching style is diagnostic, prescriptive, and multisensory. I use a lot of hands-on manipulatives and materials. I will send each student a file at least one day before class begins and weekly thereafter. Students will have the ability to interact with other students during learning. In a class with more than three learners, students will occasionally be placed in breakout rooms(monitored by me) to discuss the concept and solve puzzles. Week 1-We will review letter/sound correspondence using a reading deck. We will discriminate between vowels and consonants, and learn to code long and short vowels. I will introduce the first 2 syllable types and syllable division rule 1.We will begin creating a book of the Six Syllable Types. Fluency passage #1 Week 2- Review prior week. Introduction to the third syllable type, syllable division puzzles, discussion, and add to our Syllables book. Fluency Checks. Week 3-Review, Introduction to the fourth syllable type, syllable division rules, Syllables book, and Fluency Passage #2. Week 4-Review of the first 4 syllable types. Fluency Check. Weeks 5-9 We will continue with the same skills, just new syllable types and division rules. Continue Fluency Practice and Checks.
