Ever been in the doldrums? Every heard the word "rigamarole"? In this amazing novel by Norton Juster you will learn the meaning of these words and many, many more.  I have loved this book for many years and I hope that you will too. 

This literature unit will consist of five weeks. We will divide the 20 chapters into five weeks each week covering four chapters. For each chapter, we will have writing, vocabulary, comprehension and analysis, and fun challenging activities. We will explore homophones, idioms, and synonyms. We will also examine each of these literary elements:
setting, plot, character traits, figurative language. 

Each student will have a final project and we will have three assessments- one for the first half of the book and one for the latter half and a vocabulary assessment. 

I use Schoology and students will need to access the Schoology website and enter the Schoology classroom for their assignments and handouts for each week.

All materials will be provided. Students will need a copy of the book. Though we will have a digital copy available for reading in class if needed.

Hello! I have been an educator for fifteen years. I graduated from Lenoir Rhyne University with a Bachelors of Science. I have also graduated from the University of Medicine and Health Sciences with my Medical Doctorate. A few years ago, I began a Masters in Education with a focus on curriculum development and on the online flipped classrooms.  I also have an interest in film. Many of my classes will be enriched with digital enhancements. I use a program that allows for complete interactivity. I will use interactive responses and slides that the students can manipulate from their computer.  It will allow every student to have a voice in the class. We will look at the answers as a class and discuss again. 

I have five children whom I homeschooled in their early elementary years. I taught many classes through our various co-ops.  My approach to teaching and learning makes the subject interesting through my excitement. I employ a variety of methods to reach every style of learner.  I believe in mastery before moving on. I will offer any extra material that I can to help your child in that direction. 

I have courses in core grammar, reading, and literature/unit studies. I also offer courses in science and health. I have a one time lecture for students who have a desire to be a physician. I would love to have your child. I went to medical school without any guidance. It is my strong desire to get out the information that I have learned so that other students have a "leg up".
