Papel, lápiz, poesía: lista de poemas y poemas de colores y formas

En este curso de 2 semanas, los niños seguirán el proceso de escritura para crear 2 tipos diferentes de poemas. Escribir poesía es divertido cuando los alumnos tienen la opción de escribir sobre sus intereses, sentimientos y experiencias.

Welcome to Paper, Pencil, Poetry! Join the fun as we focus on one type of poem each week. For this course, learners should have basic knowledge and experience in:
•	the writing process: brainstorm, write, revise/edit, publish (final copy) 
•	parts of speech (nouns, verbs, adjectives)
•	writing sentences 
I created this as a multi-day course so learners will have one class session to review and practice the main concepts needed to create each poem. The second class session will give learners time to complete their poem, illustrate, and share it. Learners will feel successful in their creative writing abilities while enjoying a collaborative, stress-free environment. 

The Format each week will be as follows:
Class 1
•	Read a poem that follows the structure of the poem for the week. Class discussion on what we observe in the poem.
•	Review the writing process.
•	Review main concepts needed to create the poem and practice these concepts through interactive activities.
•	Introduce the poem structure. Learners will collaborate through brainstorming ideas and creating a class poem together. 
•	If time allows, learners will decide on a topic for their own poem and begin the writing process. 
•	If time does not allow, learners may be asked to think of a few ideas for the topic of their poem before the next class session.   
Learners may use the Outschool Classroom message system to check in with me between Class 1 and 2 if necessary. 

Class 2 
•	Continue with the writing process. This will include teacher assistance with each learner on revising/editing rough drafts and guidance on how to complete the final copy. 
•	Illustrate poems.  Learners may share their poems at the end of class if they feel comfortable doing so. 

Week 1- List Poem
Main concept: parts of speech 

Week 2- Color-Shape Poem
Main concepts: Five senses; parts of speech; writing complete sentences 

Please Note:  Every learner is unique and the poetry he/she creates will vary in length and complexity.  We will do our best to have final copies of poems completed in the 2nd class of the week. If learners are unable to finish their poem in that time frame, they will be encouraged to complete it after class. They can send it to me through Outschool Classroom for review and I will give them feedback.

Lista de útiles escolares
•	One (1) composition notebook is preferable. Otherwise, please have several sheets of lined or unlined paper for each class session.       
•	2-3 sharpened pencils and an eraser
•	Colored pencils (sharpened) or crayons
•	For Week 2: 1 small posterboard/card stock  (size 9”X12” or  14”X22”). If not available, please be sure to have an extra sheet of unlined paper 
•	Prior to class, please print the attached Poem Format Sheets and the Color-Shape Poem Web for your learner. 
•	Optional* Parent Reference sheet includes lesson plan information and extension activity for each poem.

My teaching experiences and professional development training over the past 35 years have helped me build a treasure chest of ideas, materials and methods to guide children through the writing process. I have taught language arts in all elementary grades—many years with children in grades K-3. Children at these ages are learning to read and write simultaneously. I am passionate about building a child’s confidence in a safe, friendly environment. Small class size and individual attention are also key components for success. 

Nothing warms my heart more than seeing a child excited and proud to read a story or poem that he/she has written! Creative writing is more fun when we focus on getting our thoughts and ideas on paper first. During the editing part of the process is when we will concentrate on the conventions of spelling, punctuation, etc.
