During this class, I will demonstrate how to complete a quick watercolor background monotype and silhouette drawing. Once I finish showing them how to "paint without paint", I will be there for the students to observe and facilitate them to create the project on their own. They will be able to "paint" the backgrounds quickly and will need to put them aside to dry. If the one they want to use is soaking wet, a parent can help the student blow dry it (with a hairdryer or the student can wave it around) so that it will be dry enough to draw on with permanent marker. Once the backgrounds are complete and we have discussed the vocabulary associated with this project, I will then demonstrate a few different types of silhouettes and the students will choose which one they would like to do or create their own. It is the Artist's choice! At the end of class, students will hopefully have time to share their work with the class so that we can Ohhhh and Ahhhhh over it! I strongly encourage students to then take this lesson and teach it to their siblings, friends, or other family members. It is so easy that it appeals to every age and ability group and students are proud to be able to teach it others by themselves!
Metas de aprendizaje
Students will learn to make a watercolor marker monotype with basic supplies. They will be able to use this art work to create wonderful backgrounds that can be finished with silhouettes and become the front of a greeting card or a framed piece of Art in itself. The learner should be able to complete one finished piece by the end of class and have more pieces to complete after class, if desired.

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
I am passionate about teaching Art! I am currently a middle school Art teacher but have also taught elementary Art as well. The ages I prefer teaching are from K-8 because I have experience teaching all of those ages including all levels of Special Education students. I have been a middle school (6-8th grade) Art and New Mexico History teacher for the past 7 years. I have also taught summer elementary (K-5) art classes for the past 2 summers and would have again this year but it was cancelled.
Prior to teaching, I was a stay at home mother for 10 years to raise my 3 sons. During that time, I homeschooled my oldest son. Before I was a stay at home mother, I was an elementary teacher for 5 years. I taught 3-5th grade.
I graduated from The University of New Mexico with a Bachelor's Degree in Education. I currently have a valid Level 3 - Instructional Leader K-8 Elementary teaching license with the State of New Mexico. I am endorsed in Visual Arts and highly qualified in History and Language Arts. I achieved my National Board Certification for Teachers in Early and Middle Childhood Art in 2015. In the Fall of 2019, I became a National Geographic Certified Educator.
