Qué está incluido

5 reuniones en vivo
3 horas 45 minutos horas presenciales
Tarea
2-4 horas por semana. Students will have five guided-reading handouts, one for each day to complete as they read. The handout has comprehension questions and an optional writing activity. Students will need to read about 40-50 pages each evening, Monday through Thursday. (Or the students can read half of the book before the first class.) Almost all of the reading is done independently outside of class. Since reading speed varies widely, consider how much time it would take for your student to read the 40-50 pages. A small optional writing activity is also introduced at the end of each class. Students who wish to receive a grade/assessment will need to finish assignments and have them submitted before Friday's class. A typical 4th or 5th grade student should be able to complete the work in less than an hour and a half each day.
Evaluación
Parents will receive an email informal assessment of the student's participation and reading strengths. A formal grade can be given if requested before the first class. Optional writing activities needing grades will need submitted before the Friday class.

Please note that this five-days-in-one-week class covers the same material offered in my once-a-week-for-five-weeks class. To finish the novel in five days, students should be able to read about 40 pages each day Monday-Thursday, or parents may wish for the student to read some of the novel before the Monday class.

This five-day class is designed to cover the literary elements taught in an elementary grade fiction unit. Rather than reading several short stories in a literature textbook, students will read a complete novel -- Charlotte's Web. Although Charlotte's Web is often a read-aloud in younger grades, the novel also provides upper elementary students opportunities for enjoyable study and independent reading. Second and third graders taking the class should be strong readers. Fourth and fifth graders struggling with reading or those who have not read this novel will definitely enjoy the classic story.

See below for general day by day expectations:

Monday: Introduction to E. B. White, setting, vocabulary, descriptive writing, pages 1-42 assigned.
Tuesday: Review game or quiz activity, character, vocabulary, summary writing, pages 42-90 assigned.
Wednesday: Review game or quiz activity, figures of speech, vocabulary, writing activity, pages 91-137 assigned.
Thursday: Review game or quiz activity, theme, vocabulary, opinion writing, pages 138-184 assigned.
Friday: Book Content Activity/assessment, plot mapping, possible writing assignment.

Miss Amy will use Power Point, lecture, example, discussion, games, and Q and A to teach the unit.

(Although Amy regularly teaches one learner classes, she does need at least two learners to keep the listing viable. Parents will be contacted 24 hours in advance if there is only one learner.)

Students will need a copy of Scholastic Inc. Charlotte's Web to maintain consistency with page numbers assigned by the teacher. It is available on Amazon under the search "Charlotte's Web Scholastic" for under 7 dollars.

Students will also need the free app Kahoot or access to www.Kahoot.com during the class times, preferably on a secondary device. Students/parents do not need to create an account on Kahoot. Students are given a pin number to play a challenge/game on my teacher account.
