Class will start with teacher Julia and one of her dogs - 1) Ginger Peach, Dutch Shepherd, 2) Magnum, Border Collie, or 3) Latte, Border Collie - demonstrating the simple verbal cue and hand signal for that week’s obedience skill(s). First, the student will practice without their dog. Then they will try it with their dog. Teacher Julia will ask the student to show her their progress so she can give training tips in real time. She’ll also ask questions about the student’s dog: age, breed or mix, and learning style. How a dog learns is just as important as how a person learns! For example, a Dalmatian (non-working breed) learns differently than a Border Collie (herding breed). Here’s a hint: Motivation. Week 1: Identify skills needed, set goals, homework demo by teacher Julia and her dog Week 2: Review skills homework, review goals, homework demo Week 3: Review skills homework, review goals, homework demo Students and dogs are encouraged to take potty or water breaks as needed so they don’t lose focus or tire out. Please Note: Teacher Julia will need to be able to see the student and their dog when actively training. Be sure to pick a space large enough for the human and canine learners.
Metas de aprendizaje

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
Hi! Did you know that dog paws smell like Fritos? (Ask me why in class!) I have been a dog trainer for almost 15 years and own Spot On K9 Sports in South Elgin, IL. I am a member of the Association of Professional Dog Trainers, a Canine Good Citizen and Trick Dog evaluator for AKC, and a Certified Trick Dog Instructor.
I teach using positive reinforcement - that means we use treats, toys and praise. My classes are “Good Dog” (obedience), “Trick Dog” (tricks), “Jumping Dog” (agility), and “Junior Dog Trainer” (learning theory). I help dogs and their people have fun while learning together.
My husband and I lived in New Orleans for many years and volunteered for the Louisiana SPCA. Now we live in South Elgin, IL with our young son, three dogs, one cat and many spiders.
