The Olympic Games have finally arrived! In this engaging class we will share our favorite olympic sports and athletes. We will also learn  interesting facts about the origin and history of the Olympics. Then we will learn about the olympic location and athletes of the 2021 games and years past. Information will be taught through interactive slides using Nearpod. We will also play Olympic themed games and trivia throughout! This social class is designed to give each learner the opportunity to talk about their favorite olympic sports, learn about others, and have a lot of fun! 

Learners should be able to navigate between the Zoom window and another internet browser window on either a computer, laptop, tablet, or phone to participate in interactive slides and games using Nearpod. This site is designed to increase engagement and does not require any extra subscription costs for the learner!

Hello!

I am a homeschool mom and former 7th grade math and STEM teacher! I love teaching math in a way that is engaging and promotes conceptual understanding. I began my math teaching career as a tutor in an after school program. I learned so much about the misconceptions of those students while helping them with their homework, and I took it with me to my classroom years later. When I began teaching math in my brick and mortar classroom, I was constantly looking for ways that I could bring the real world into my math class. I realized that my students understood and retained so much more when they felt like the math was a part of their real lives. I cannot wait to share some of those ways with your learner! I also believe math is even better when it can be applied in situations that are of interest to your learner, so I enjoy bringing STEM projects and concepts into our lessons. Math is everywhere, it is real, and I want your learner to enjoy it as much as I do!

I have been teaching accelerated, general, and special education mathematics courses to 7th grade students for 5 years. I also created and taught a STEM elective along with other problem based learning courses. I have two children of my own, middle and elementary schoolers, and a wonderful rescue dog named Opie! I like to explore the outdoors, camp, hike, cook, craft, and design math curriculum materials in my spare time!

I am also an avid reader! I enjoy reading all kinds of books in my spare time, and I led a book club for teens as part of an afterschool program in my previous school district. I have many years of experience counseling and engaging with teens and young adults as a volunteer camp counselor for 5 summers.
