Nutrición: macronutrientes, vitaminas, minerales y planes de alimentación de un día.
En este curso de 4 semanas estudiaremos macronutrientes (carbohidratos, grasas, proteínas), vitaminas, minerales y dietas equilibradas. ¡Los estudiantes reunirán toda esta información creando un plan de alimentación de un día que incluya todos los nutrientes necesarios!

- Students will understand the dietary requirements as set forth by MyPlate.gov and the USDA (recommended daily allowances) and develop strategies to consume those requirements on a regular basis using a whole-foods, balanced diet.
I have a BS degree in Nutrition and Food Science (pre-med track) from Florida State University. I also worked as a Product Information Specialist at Rexall Sundown (Sundown Vitamins) at one point. I later became a certified middle school science teacher and taught middle school science in the Florida public school system for 5 years. I have always been fascinated with achieving a whole-foods, balanced diet in my own life and for my children, which I believe has helped me to remain healthy well into my 40s (I'm about to turn 50 and still maintain almost perfect health!). I have been an online teacher for Outschool and/or other platforms since 2018. I was a homeschool mama until 2023 when my son graduated to go on to become a successful entrepreneur. My other son attends a local high school and is still at home :)

Please let me know if you would like a cumulative grade issued based on the meal plan and general participation in class (learners are not required to participate verbally...they will have plenty of opportunity to participate on Nearpod).
Lecture/slides/discussion is broken up with Nearpod Interactive Slides to keep learners engaged and having fun! Flexible deadlines. Homework is optional.
Should have some background knowledge in the human body. Please contact me if you would like to sign up your learner in one of my human body classes for middle or high school.
A printable outline of each class that can be filled in during the lecture will be provided each week. For the final project (one-day meal plan) learners will need supplies based on how they choose to do the project. This could be paper and pen, paper and drawing tools (colored pencils, crayons, etc), or a graphic design program of their choice. Should they choose to create a short video, they will need access to a camera.
Nearpod activity slides do not require an account or password. Parents should monitor learners eating habits and created meal-plan. A healthy, whole-foods diet will be emphasized over any other way of eating.
I may refer to the following websites during class: USDA, Food and Nutrition Board, and MyPlate.gov. Nearpod and Youtube links may be provided.
