New-to-knitting learners watch a step-by-step demonstration of one technique at a time; then are guided through the technique, with ample opportunities to ask questions and receive individual assistance. No prior experience is necessary, however hand and finger dexterity are helpful. Everyone learns at their own pace, and students who like to sew or make crafts are likely to pick up knitting skills quickly. Learners are most welcome to repeat this class if desired! Techniques: 1) slip knot, to create the first cast-on stitch 2) holding the yarn and the two knitting needles 3) casting stitches onto a needle 4) knit stitch technique 5) rows of knit stitch make up the garter stitch texture 6) (if time permits) binding off the last row of stitches, to create a finished edge Knitting is repetitive; practice time in class is also conversation time! Learners will be invited to share their handiwork in class by holding them up to the camera, and they'll have an opportunity to admire and comment upon their fellow knitters' handiwork. No prior experience required!
Metas de aprendizaje
Learners develop knitting skills, an understanding of the knitting process, and experience the confidence and satisfaction of crafting their first-ever knitted square.

Orientación para padres
Grownups are asked to caution learners against using pointed tools--knitting needles and scissors--as playthings.
Younger and impulsive children may require adult supervision while using these tools.
Lista de útiles escolares
EACH LEARNER WILL NEED: - 1 pair knitting needles--short, thick needles are easiest to use. (NO crochet hooks, as these are for a different purpose) - I recommend U.S. size 10 (6mm) knitting needles. - A skein or ball of thick yarn--knit stitches in light or bright colors are easiest to see. - I recommend yarn in a ‘bulky’ thickness - 100% pure wool is easy to work with, due to its elasticity. - Wool blends or other fibers are also suitable. - Scissors for snipping the yarn end after binding off Please message the teacher if you have any questions about materials.
Recursos externos
