In this engaging and educational course, students will discover the powerful connection between nature and their mental and physical health, along with the role that balancing screen time plays in supporting overall well-being. Through activities, discussions, and reflective questions, kids will learn to appreciate the outdoors while developing healthy habits.

Your child will learn how spending time outside can help them feel calmer, stronger, and happier, as they discover the benefits of fresh air, sunshine, movement, and more for both mental and physical health. They’ll also explore the importance of setting healthy screen time limits, uncovering the downsides of excessive screen use and the benefits of achieving balance. Through hands-on activities, kids will delve into fascinating facts about how nature reduces stress and anxiety while boosting mood, focus, strength, and energy. This class combines educational insights about nature and screen time with an engaging story and activities that capture the thrill of the outdoors. Additionally, kids will participate in nature-inspired mindfulness, affirmation, and gratitude exercises and receive a printable scavenger hunt  and additional exercises to encourage continued outdoor exploration and enjoyment after class. This lesson fosters an appreciation for nature while equipping students with the tools to maintain a balanced lifestyle.

 A FUN AND EDUCATIONAL ADVENTURE!

Introduction - Overview of the course objectives

Book Reading - "Let's Grow on an Adventure: Finding Calm in the Joy of Nature" written by the teacher
Purpose: Inspire a love for nature and adventure, while introducing essential concepts related to the environment and wellbeing

Story Discussion - Review key words and ideas from the story and prompt children to reflect on the connection between nature and their own physical and mental health

Mindful Moments: Discovering Nature's Boost for Body and Brain
 Educational Discussion – Discover the mental and physical health benefits of spending time outdoors.

Presentation – Learn how time in nature connects to mindfulness, helping kids slow down, connect with themselves, and feel more in tune with the world around them.

Guided Activities – Practice nature-based mindfulness, affirmations, gratitude exercises, and enjoy a scavenger hunt. These engaging activities will be practiced during class and are available as downloadable resources

Finding Balance: Nature’s Power vs. Screen Time
 Presentation - Explore the benefits of limiting screen time and achieving a healthy balance. Kids will explore more of nature's superpowers and reflect on which aspects of nature they find most beneficial.

Reflection Questions -  Students will engage with prompts designed to encourage deeper thinking about balancing screen time with other activities 

Nature Power vs. Screen-Time - A fun quiz to check and reinforce  learning.

Setting Goals for a Happy Life: Screen Limits and Outdoor Fun!
 Kids will learn how to establish screen-time limits and identify the importance of limiting screen use and finding balance for their well-being.

Goal Development - Drawing from their learning and personal reflections, students will set specific screen-time and nature goals focused on reducing screen time and increasing their outdoor activities.
