Calling all nature lovers and explorers! Join us during our once-a-week class where we will explore different nature study topics, from plants to animals, and occasionally even some earth science topics that relate to our world! Each week we will explore our topic through science, geography, and language arts. While we are discussing and learning together learners are encouraged to work on something creative with our topic as inspiration. This could be a drawing, a painting, fiber work, clay work, a brick building, or any other form you may be interested in creating with! Toward the end of our session, learners will have the opportunity to share their creations with other learners. If your learner hasn’t completed their creation by the end of our time that’s not a problem! Once finished they can post it into the classroom to share with everyone. Each class will have some examples of drawings, paintings, and photographs to inspire. In addition, I will share my nature journal entry on the weekly topic as another form of inspiration. However, learners are free to create whatever they wish, and creation is optional for those that may just want to explore that day. Each class will include some directed exploration, however, learners will be encouraged to discuss and share their knowledge and experience with the weekly topic as well. Upcoming Themes: Week of July 24th - Blue Whale Week of July 31st - Osprey Week of August 7th - Cattails Week of August 14th - Ladybug Week of August 21st - Fiddler Crab Week of August 28th - Box Turtle Week of September 4th - Moss Week of September 11th - Osprey Week of September 18th - Cattails Week of September 25th - Monarch Butterfly Week of October 2nd - Blue Whale Week of October 9th - Alligator Week of October 16th - Moss Week of October 23rd - Ladybug Week of October 30th - Seahorse Week of November 6th - Box Turtle Week of November 13th - Leaves of 3 While this is an ongoing class, it is not progressive. Lista de útiles escolares
Learners will need whatever supplies they have chosen to use for their creations, and a safe space to create in while in class. However, I recommend having at least some paper and pencils available. I will be sharing my nature journal entries. If the learners would like to create a journal from this class, or just keep all their creations in one place, I use a 7 x 10-inch mixed media spiral-bound notebook. While I may occasionally add paints to my notebook, I primarily use a combination of #2 pencils and colored pencils.

My name is Ms. Jena and I am a 2nd generation homeschooling mom to 4 children. I have a Bachelor’s in Educational Studies and have taught within the dance and homeschool communities for over 25 years. My passion for nature began at a young age exploring the farm and woods of my childhood home. It has continued throughout my life - one of my favorite vacation destinations is a state or national park for some hiking, camping, and nature photography! This love has allowed me to deep dive into exploration and study with my own children from their pre-school level nature explorations to their high school level oceanography interests. Nature has also been a wonderful place for me to explore my visual arts passion and I love learning more about our natural world as I photograph it!
