Nature journaling helps people of all ages to develop important skills, such as critical thinking, observing with attention to detail and patience, expression and description, identifying and classifying, making comparisons, and researching.

In this unique on-going class, students will use their nature journal to develop these skills in the recording of their observations.

Each class will begin with a warm greeting. Then students will have the opportunity to share something they have learned, a question they may have, or share about a recent hike or nature walk they took. Next, the weekly topic and skill will be explored and discussed. Students will then have time to write and draw in their Nature Journals.

Skills may include, but not limited to:

-Comparing Various Finds (could include flowers, trees, seeds, animal tracks etc.)

Lista de útiles escolares
Students who choose to create their nature journal in class will need:
-a colored sheet of construction paper (color is their choice, they can also choose to use a brown paper bag)
-several sheets of copy paper (one sheet per 1-2 entries)
-binding materials. We have made many journals, all with different bindings. Binding options: staples (these are quick and easy, but do not allow you to add more pages), hole punch and string/yarn (super fun, but difficult - not impossible - to add more sheets), or hole punch with brads (fun and easy to add sheets).

Students may also want a variety of art supplies for their journal entries. These may include:
-pencils
-colored pencils or crayons
-water colors
-tape/glue
-acrylics

Hello Friends and Welcome to my classroom!

✨New to Outschool? Use code KATIEAC2020 to save $20 today!✨

I have been teaching for over 15 years in various areas of education. I believe learning should be fun. I enjoy teaching reading, writing, and the English language. I also enjoy teaching classes that keep us moving - my kids are very active! My class offerings will include phonics/reading, writing, the English language (ESL, ELL) history and geography, art, and science. My one-on-one class offerings will include tutoring options in reading, writing, math, research projects, and the English language.

I have a Master's degree from the University of Rochester and a teaching license from the state of New York. I spent several years teaching high school level history courses to students ages 15-18, tutoring various subjects to students of all ages, and coaching. I have been teaching ESL online for over 2 years and enjoy the on-line format. I also currently homeschool our two children.

I enjoy spending time with family and seeing the excitement of discovery on my kids' faces when they learn something new. We enjoy reading, hiking, and exploring new adventures together. I hope you will join me on the next fun adventure!
