In this ongoing course, students will learn about and discuss different stories from around the world. Each week will cover a different myth, legend, folktale, or story from around the world and I will do my best to cover all areas of the globe. The myths will be taken from reliable sources and it is important to keep the discussion respectful when discussing these stories as they form an important part of the culture. Due to the ongoing nature of the course, students are welcome to join as they wish as each week will cover a different topic. The class will be structured as follows: We will start with introductions I will then tell the story of the week and include any important historical and cultural information about the area that the story originates from. This will be done through a presentation, pictures, and maybe a video. After the story, I will lead a guided discussion. Most myths and legends have some form of lesson, so we will discuss that lesson for the week. The discussion will include questions like "What can we learn from this story?" and "What does the story tell us about the place it comes from?" At the end of the class, we will play a fun trivia game to test our comprehension of the story that week! Some of these stories may contain battles, violence, and death. These stories will be presented in an age-appropriate way. For example, if a story contains a battle and death, this will be simply stated instead of going into details. If you are unsure if a story might be appropriate for your student, please either research the story ahead of time or message me with any questions.
