Get ready to use your brains most powerful tool- your imagination! Join me in "My First Acting Class" to practice using your imagination and body to reenact beloved short stories, folktales, and fairy tales like the Three Little Pigs and Jack and the Beanstalk. We will begin class with physical and vocal warm-ups. The warm ups will include stretching and a “shake up.” We will warm up our voice by making vowel and animal sounds. We will briefly discuss basic theater terms and characters using our story of the day as a guide. Then, as a group we will act out a short story. We will use experiment with using different voices and movements for different characters. This class is a perfect introduction to the world of theater for young learners, no prior experience is required.

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
Hello! My name is Mia! I am from the North Georgia mountains. I am currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Teaching. I love to teach about the theater, English, acting, and History. I hope to promote a love of learning in my classroom by providing an energetic and welcoming environment! The ability to express ideas, appreciate outside views, think critically, and empathize are essential skills for children to develop into successful adults. I will support my students in speaking often and engaging with one another. I also encourage students to continue learning outside the classroom.
After earning an Associate's Degree in Theater, I attended the University of North Georgia. At UNG I earned my Bachelors. My education background includes Sociology, History, Education, and Theater. I have three years experience as an assistant instructor in performance based Theater Summer Camps. I have spent the past 3 years teaching English online. I also lead Tinkergarten classes in my community. These are outdoor, play-based lessons that help nurture essential skills.
When I am not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my husband, our daughter, and our five cats. We can be found bird watching in our back yard, cheering on the Braves, hiking in the park, visiting the animals in the zoo, or planning our next adventure!
Class Policies:
1) Classes should come close to the scheduled amount of time, however, classes with few students or extremely conversational students may run a few minutes under or a few minutes over.
2) If a class does not meet the minimum enrollment requirements, I will contact the parents and learners to confirm they want to continue class 24 hours before class is scheduled to begin. I will teach the class unless the learner requests to move to a different section.
3) Classes will begin at the scheduled time, even if all learners are not in the classroom (unless technical issues occur). I will contact absent learners after class.
4) If no students are in the classroom, I will wait 10 minutes before exiting the classroom and I will contact the students after leaving the classroom.
5) Please feel free to reach out with any questions!
See you in the classroom!
