Week 1Lesson 1What is the conductor doing?Where do the trombones sit in your ensemble? What is the conductor doing and how do I know they are communicating with me?Week 2Lesson 2...but I know my part.Did you play your part or practice your part? We will seek to understand the differences, and layout the ground rules of performance practice.Week 3Lesson 3What to do while the director rehearses another sectionBuzz, sing in your head, study how your part fits in with whatever they are saying. If you are in rest mode, how do you stay engaged beyond countingWeek 4Lesson 4Your part - and another partThis class focuses on hearing different notes of the chord. How do we know which one we have and how to play the intonation correctly? We will develop melodic ear tone skills.Week 5Lesson 5What's my role in the ensemble?How do you know why your notes were written? Let's explore section solo, featured section, solo, solo + support, and playing the harmony or bass line.Week 6Lesson 6Technical performance skillsLet's explore what technical skills are asked for on standard auditions. We will review various skills used for state honors and college ensembles, however we will be working at reduced speeds. This is about developing technique and setting a path towards long term development.Week 7Lesson 7All about the extrasThere is so much more to playing your trombone - like glissandos, playing on mouthpiece only, mutes, and costumes. Let's explore how ensembles have fun .... in the trombone section.Week 8Lesson 8Concert etiquetteWhat to do on and off stage. How do you enter and exit the stage? What to do with your trombone when your are not playing or need to walk away from your chair?Week 9Lesson 9Ensemble dayIt's all play day. We will join off mute, and practice together, lagging internet and all.Week 10Lesson 10Literature walkPerform your choice of a trombone ensemble work for the class.
