In addition to a brief presentation on some of the various topics relevant to a music career, this class will be an open discussion where students are invited to ask questions and share ideas. Some topics include: * Whether or not to go to college for music * Diversification and adaptability * Possible career paths and options * Music as an art and as a business For this class, I will adapt a flexible teaching style where I can answer student questions and share ideas based on my experience as a professional musician for over thirty years. I will also encourage students to take some time on their own to examine their values and desires in order to promote an integrated approach to life and career. Although no experience is required, at least some familiarity with music (playing an instrument, beat making, singing, etc.) may help students to better engage in the subject matter.
Metas de aprendizaje
Students will learn about some of the options available for a full-time music career. Students will also be encouraged to examine their personal values and engage in self-inquiry.

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
Greetings.
Chris K here. I’ll be teaching a variety of music classes such as an introduction to various percussion instruments, ukulele for beginners, and career ideas for musicians. I have been a professional musician for over thirty years. I have performed and/or recorded with symphony orchestras, wind ensembles, rock bands, jazz, bands, country bands, and steel drum ensembles. As a musician in the U.S. Navy for twenty years, I traveled around the world playing many styles of music in a multitude of settings. My primary instruments are drums and percussion, but I also play guitar, ukulele, piano, and sing. I have a Master’s degree in music education and a Bachelor’s in music therapy. As an educator and music therapist I have experience working with students and clients between the ages of five and eighty-five.
I believe that education is essential for personal development, growth, and self-expression. Music can be extremely beneficial, not only for creativity and self-expression, but also for brain development and physical coordination. My goal as an educator is not only to help each student learn the material being presented in a fun and meaningful way, but to also inspire students to continue to learn throughout their lives.
In addition to music, I enjoy traveling, reading, and exercising.
