Lesson 1
Phonemic Awareness Rhyming Games and Activities. Phonics Letters of the Alphabet
Children will work on the phonemic awareness skill of rhyming through the "Can You Hear a Rhyme? Ladybug Game" Children will be introduced to the letters m/s/a/t and will do different games and activities with those letters.
Lesson 2
Phonics: Letters of the Alphabet. Irregular Spelled Heart Words. Common Nouns
Children will continue to talk about and review the letters m/s/a/t and do games and activities with them. Children will be introduced to what a heart word is and will see two example of heart words. (the/said) Children will be introduced to what a noun is (person/place/thing) and play games with example of each kind of noun.
Lesson 3
Vocabulary: Word Categories. Comprehension and Fluency for Kindergarten Text.
Children will be introduced to word categories and talk about different categories of words such as fruits/ clothings/vehicles etc. We will play a sorting game to think about the different categories of words and where each object belongs. We will read a beginning kindergarten level text that contains short a sound CVC words and do some comprehension work with that.

Children will work on the phonemic awareness skill of rhyming by playing the Rhyming BINGO Game. Children will review the letters m/s/a/t and their sounds. They will talk about words that start with those sounds and build words that have those letters in them.

Children will review all the letters that they have learned so far m/t/s/a/p/f/i/n. We will talk about words that start with those sounds. Children will learn two new irregular spelled heart words (to/do) Children will review (the/said) Reading all 4 of them. Children will learn what a proper noun is and play a Google Slides Game with different proper nouns.

Vocabulary: Word Categories. Comprehension and Fluency For Kindergarten Text
Students will continue to talk about different categories that objects can be sorted into by playing different vocabulary games... "Which one is not like the others....." Students will read a Kindergarten Level Text containing short i vowel sound CVC words.

Phonemic Awareness: Fun With Syllables Phonics: Letters of the Alphabet
Introduce the idea of what a syllable is to children. Practice different ways to tell how many syllables a word has. Play a game where we try to identify how many syllables in a word. This week we will do the Clothing Themed Game. Review all the Letter Sounds we have learned so far (m/t/s/a/m/p/f/i/n) Write vc and cvc words using those letters and sounds.

Phonics: Letters of the Alphabet. Irregular Spelled Heart Words. Proper Nouns
Review all the Letter Sounds we have learned so far (m/t/s/a/m/p/f/i/n) Write vc and cvc words using those letters and sounds. Practice writing the four irregular heart words we have learned so far (the/said/to/do) Play a sorting game where students have to decide if a picture is a common noun or a proper noun.

Vocabulary: Opposites-Antonyms. Comprehension and Fluency Skills .
Introduce the idea of opposites to the children. Look at book that is full of opposites. Talk about the different pairs of opposites that we see.

Playing a game sorting words that have all the sounds we have learned so far (Vowel Sorting/Clipboard Game)

Review all the alphabet letters and sounds we have learned so far. Make sure to revisit the 2 sounds of short a and also of s. Playing a game sorting words that have all the sounds we have learned so far (Vowel Sorting/Clipboard Game) Learn to read 2 new irregular heart words.(of/from) Review reading all of the previous learned heart words (the/said/to/do) Introduce the idea of plural nouns ( more than one) Talk about some examples using Google Slides Activity.

Practice writing all of the irregular heart words that we have learned so far. (the/said/to/do/of/from) Show them that some nouns add an s to show more than one. Some add -es to show more than one. Some change to a whole new word. Play a game with them to help them practice this concept.

I have been a K-2 teacher for over 20 years.  My expertise is in reading intervention and I have worked in that area for the last 8 years.  I am very passionate about helping children learn how to read and especially passionate about helping those students who are struggling and need an out of the box way to learn how to become successful readers!  I take a very hands on multi-sensory approach to learning the basic foundational skills  and above all we make it fun!!!!
