Hello kindred spirits, are we ready for more Anne? Yes please! After two years of teaching near Green Gables, Anne is all grown up! She is off to further her studies and find adventure in another province, Nova Scotia. Have no fear, Green Gables in Prince Edward Island is still a special and important place in this third novel too! As we follow Anne to Redmond College, we will see Anne's horizons open up. Join me and other kindred spirits as we read "Anne of the Island", where Anne finds independence, searches her heart, and finally discovers where she belongs and her one true love! Ah, the romance, wink wink! I look forward to sharing my own firsthand experiences and descriptions of Eastern Canada, especially Prince Edward Island AND Nova Scotia. I am blessed to own a 1904 farmhouse on PEI’s north shore, and I have travelled throughout Nova Scotia(including the world famous Peggy's Cove)! In addition to reading the novel "Anne of the Island", learners will have the opportunity to create their own set of scrapbook pages based on scenes from the novel. It will be an exhilarating activity indeed! Learners will read sections of the book prior to each meeting. Our classes will typically follow this pattern: Review of main events(plot), description of the setting for each section, and students will take turns reading aloud paragraphs from the novel(selected by learners prior to class). We will work on our fun scrapbooks at the end of every meeting! Eight Week Schedule Outline First Week: Meeting #1: Introductions, discuss chapter one Second Week: Meeting #2: discuss chapters 2-6 Third Week: Meeting #3: discuss chapters 7-12 Fourth Week: Meeting #4: discuss chapters 13-18 Fifth Week: Meeting #5: discuss chapters 19-24 Sixth Week: Meeting #6: discuss chapters 25-30 Seventh Week: Meeting #7: discuss chapters 31-36 Eighth Week: Meeting #8: discuss chapters 37-41, present our scrapbooks, say our farewells!

Orientación para padres
Parents please note that there are instances in the novel of subtle racist character descriptions which were more commonplace during the time frame the book was written. It will be pointed out in class that racism in any form should never be acceptable, and will provide the opportunity for a candid discussion on how we should not tolerate subtle racism. Thank you parents for working together with me to develop these essential skills and attitudes in your children.
Also, please feel free to read the book aloud to learners if the vocabulary or reading level proves too challenging, in fact this is highly encouraged. Reading aloud to your child is a wonderful experience for everyone.

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
I am a certified teacher with over 26 years of experience in Canadian classrooms. I specialize in Middle Years English and have led hundreds of book clubs with countless students. I have truly enjoyed every minute of it. Perhaps most telling of all, I have been enthralled with Anne Shirley my whole life...so much so, that I went to Prince Edward Island and bought a farmhouse there!!
