This Story Club is for anyone age 9-13 who wants to write with other kindred spirits! We will support and help each other. We will actively listen to each other's story ideas. We will share our own writing with the class. We will learn creative writing tips from Mrs. B(who is VERY excited to spend time with you!!). Most of all, we will celebrate and encourage everyone's unique writing talents and styles! **Please Note: This course is based on the Story Club formed by the character Anne Shirley in the novel "Anne of Green Gables". It is not required that learners read the book beforehand, however being familiar with the novel is an asset. We will often use writing prompts directly from the novel and the plot will be referenced frequently. ** Here is a breakdown of each class in this four week writing course: Week One: -We will meet each other and talk about what the “Story Club” was like in in the novel “Anne of Green Gables”, and what we want to get out of our "Story Club" -We will do some fun quick creative writing in class, based on quotes from the novel(Eg. "I'm so glad I live in a world where there are ____________________!” and “Life is worth living as long as _____________________!”) -We will share whether or not we have written any stories before, and encourage each other in how to get started or continue writing -Basic story writing elements will be discussed and a graphic organizer will be provided to assist learners who need help getting started -Homework for next meeting: Decide on at least one writing idea or theme(learners may choose more than one) and write 2-3 paragraphs to share in class Week Two: -We will start with some fun quick writing prompts based on Anne of Green Gables and write a paragraph as a group -Each learner will share their homework, that is, their own paragraphs and story ideas from the first week of class -We will give gentle suggestions and praise to each other, focusing on celebrating each learner's writing style -Mini-Lesson from Mrs. B on Setting, Suspense, and Character Development -Homework for next meeting: Learners will continue writing stories and try to complete at least half of one or more stories Week Three: -We will begin with an Alliteration Writing Exercise -Each learner will share their stories or new ideas from the second week of class -We will give gentle suggestions and praise to each other, focusing on celebrating each learner's writing style -Mini-Lesson from Mrs. B on adding humor and whimsy into a story -Mini-Lesson from Mrs. B on metaphors and similes in a story -Homework for next meeting: Learners will continue writing stories and come up with 2-3 more ideas for new stories Week Four: -We will share what our week of writing was like and our new ideas for stories -We will give gentle suggestions and praise to each other, focusing on celebrating each learner's writing style -Mini-Lesson from Mrs. B on writing a great story ending -Each learner will share about how she/he wants to end their stories and give each other creative ideas -Bid a fond farewell to each other! Perhaps talk about continuing our story club in a future course!

Orientación para padres
Parents, please note that there are instances in this book of racist attitudes which were more commonplace during the time frame of the late 1800's. It will be pointed out during class that racism in any form should never be tolerated. Thank you parents for working together with me to develop these essential attitudes in your children.
