Do you have what it takes to win Mr. Lemoncello's Great Library Race? In this class, you can find out. In this 5-week multi-day class, students will have the opportunity to read about Mr. Lemoncello and the many wonderful challenges he created in the library in Alexandriaville. Students will use higher-order thinking skills in order to solve challenges, expand their vocabulary, and make text-to-self connections.

Students will be encouraged to share their thoughts about the book and make literature-to-life connections. The first week of class will be spent getting to know each other and making predictions about the book. Due to copyright laws, no part of the book will be read during class time.
Each week, students will be required to read a portion of the book, complete some activities including vocabulary challenges, respond to open-ended questions related to the book, and respond to other learners' questions and comments. This will help promote interaction between the learners as well as with me. The students will need to be prepared for class each week. We will also do activities that are related to the events going on in our reading. For example, the learners may need to solve a rebus or logic puzzle. The final activity will be an Escape Room based on the story, previous activities, and discussions from the previous lessons in the class.

The themes included in this book are Copyright, Cheating, and Teamwork.
Week 1: Getting to know each other, Book talk, Activity based on the book

I have been a teacher in brick-and-mortar schools for 30 years. During this time, I taught reading and hosted book clubs as both a teacher and a Library Media Specialist. The book does contain the theme of bullying. I am qualified to teach this theme as I am certified as a teacher of children with Emotional and Behavior Disorders. I spent the majority of my 30-year career teaching in this field.
