This class illuminates the contribution of African Americans and focuses on their impact on current society. We will discuss people who are not often presented in conversations about black history but have been overlooked or forgotten. These people deserve to be included in our history and celebrated! As the movie “Hidden Figures” revealed, black people with amazing contributions to the past and present are not always acknowledged and appreciated. In this class, we are going to uncover more “Hidden Figures” and bring them into the light. We will discuss contributions from the diaspora from both African Americans and blacks from other countries. This is the first of a series of classes that will explore hidden and forgotten contributions of black people from the African diaspora. This class will be fun and informative! We will have great discussions and will interact through games and activities. We will discuss contributions in the following areas: Week 1: Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (S.T.E.M.) What are the innovations from the past that still impact our lives today and who created them? There are several technologies and Week 2: Fine Arts and Entertainment During this session, we will profile artists of different forms. We will explore artists and the artwork they created Week 3: Politics/Activism/Government MLK, Jessie Jackson, and Rosa Parks are well-known historic black figures! We will discuss leaders, activists, and members of government who are not as well known. Week 4: Business and Sports Our focus this week will focus on those who contributed to the field of sports. We will conclude our discussion by honoring business leaders that were unsung pioneers in their times. We will focus on contributions made starting at the time of the American Civil War (1861) through what is considered Contemporary America (1945 - present). This class will inspire awe, appreciation, and inspiration for unsung black accomplishments. Each class will last 50 minutes and will be structured as follows: * Introduction: Greeting and Recap * Black History Profiles * Discussion and Interactive games This class will combine both presentation and interaction. There will be discussions and fun activities. My teaching style focuses on inclusion and participation. I encourage students to engage with the material while being respectful. My goal is simply to inspire. I want students to become autodidacts (self-learners) and I accomplish this by presenting interesting material that inspires them to learn more.

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
I am an African American male with a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering. I am also a software engineer by profession. In many instances, I have been the only black person in a technical role and sometimes the only one at a company. The experiences that I have gained through my life and career have inspired me to seek out others who look like me but were often overlooked. Developing this class is a passion project for me.
